Eating lots of tofu works for me. Tofu contains a lot of phytoestrogens, which is probably why it works.
I'm also on birth control pills for PMS, but have to be very careful about the formula. In particular, I can't tolerate triphasic formulas (with a progesterone spike at the end) at all.
Tofu is a good idea, and yes, it's the phytoestrogens in soya that do the trick. On permanent use, it's said to be anti-aging as well.
Anyway, for me, the classical fave chocolate works as PMS thing, on the onset of being post-pms, an essential oil with the botanical name of "salvia sclarea" is right for me. Otherwise, a bergamot/geranium mix might work too, since it's anti-depressive.
Of course, you could always try the classical St.John's Wort. :-)
Thanks for those suggestions, I've just been eating tofu in the hope it'll help with the vile/snivelly mood I've been in for the majority of the past 2 days. *sigh*
I saw you comment in Rivier's journal and came over to check out a fellow Stargate fan. But this plea called to me even though it's from a while ago.
I take evening primrose oil capsules (500 mg) to combat PMS. One a day every day, then four a day when I feel the PMS starting til the end of my period. I've had much lessened symptons since I started this a couple of years ago - less bloating, fewer mood swings, lighter cramps.
Well, on this occasion it was moodswings from hell, which I haven't had in a while, and nothing seemed to help. I have quite a stressful job so I don't need that on top of everything else (though I'm sure it didn't help that I was stressed as well...).
If this is going to be an ongoing problem I need to get on top of it, or else I'll be up on a high tower with a rifle at DragonCon. ;)

I hope it's better next month regardless.
