Sad news, my creator has passed away, aged 83. :(
graculus: (sarcasm)
Oh please. I know television is often the land of the sparsely-brained, but surely any police officer capable of the higher brain functioning necessary to drive a car on finding a container labelled 'biohazard - medical waste' just isn't just going to a) pick it up with his bare hands, thus contaminating the evidence, and b) open it and look inside?

This entry was brought to you courtesy of the US pilot episode of Eleventh Hour.

Bargain of the week from Amazon for fellow Brits, I think - Blood Ties season 1 boxset, only £8.98. :)

I now have a computer in my new office at work. So I will shut up about moving now. Really.

In other news, in addition to my book blog over on Vox, I've also started a goodreads account. Because there can never be too many books. Seriously. Also, my library is excellent as, if I order a book online and there is one on the shelf in the system somewhere, I have it by the end of the week. Dude! I can has the complete Lord Darcy! ;)

Now for some spoilery stuff, so lj-cuts abound:

The Middleman spoilers )

Meanwhile, if we're talking twigs then it must be time to talk about Burn Notice spoilers )

And there is still also much love for Flashpoint and its' inestimable Canadian Actor Bingo scores, since Flashpoint spoilers )

I'm seriously considering junking my Sky subscription because I watch so little telly and one of those Freeview boxes would do just fine for my occasional forays into it, unless things dramatically improve in September. What with one of those gizmos, my dvds and the internet truck, I'm pretty much set.

I'm starting to wonder if Dougal losing weight has got something to do with his teeth, since he'll happily eat wet food but there's no evidence that he eats the dry food if that's all there is. Given his age, however, I'm extremely reluctant to put him through being anaethatised to deal with this if it is the problem so I'm currently making dry food soup for him. Chicken paste and the like is okay as a short-term thing but it doesn't really have enough protein to work as a long-term food - I need to go and scour the wet kitten food labels again for one that's high enough in protein to be a possible substitute (ferret food is around 40% protein because of the shortness of their digestive tract).

In other news, we get the 4th season premiere of The Closer on Monday and then next Friday sees the season 3 premiere of Psych. I watched the second season premiere of Burn Notice this morning, which was enjoyable (and I can't wait for the four-episode arc with Michael Shanks!), and I also enjoyed the pilot episode of the new show Flashpoint which aired last night. Given that it's ostensibly set in Toronto and has both Hugh Dillon and young hottie David Paetkau in it, Flashpoint also ought to be good fodder for Canadian Actor Bingo, as well as hopefully giving Enrico Colantoni (better known as Keith Mars) more well-deserved screentime. He's got that air of calm competence that just works perfectly in this show, even if it does look a little odd seeing him in the SWAT-style outfits rather than a sheriff's uniform... ;)

Oh, Rusty you cut for NSFW comment )

Yes, I have seen the season finale and all I can say is cut for spoilers )
graculus: (UNCLE)
Thanks to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] obelix who I never seem to get to see around online at the moment, I came home from my holidays clutching a set of the Man from UNCLE boxset, the one with all the episodes in, which I smuggled through customs and am now enjoying. I've watched all of season 1, including the bits in the colour version of the pilot where IK is very decorative and am now at 'The Discotheque Affair' in technicolour season 2. Much love for the boys, who really are so very married. The extras are cute too. And then when I'm done with all those episodes, I have the whole run of Wild Wild West to watch. :)

In other news, am I the only one who was somewhat underwhelmed by The Golden Compass? Yes, I know I'm behind the times, but I rented it the other day and was very much left thinking 'is that it?'. It just seemed to stop as it was really getting going. I'm left wondering if the books (though I haven't read them, so it's just speculation...) would probably have made a better miniseries, though of course they couldn't have afforded the same SFX budget. Any thoughts from the folks who have read them?

Oh, Rusty you cut for NSFW comment )

Is it next week yet?
graculus: (geek love)
Good news so far for Boston Legal and Eli Stone, both of which have been picked up for new seasons. :)

But apparently it's not looking good for Moonlight, no matter how cute together Mick and Josef are! Oh, and the plug got pulled on New Amsterdam as well...

And in other news, yesterday I finished the first draft of my Wild Wild West fic, at last!
graculus: (geek love)
I try my best not to get sucked into stuff, and indeed my golden rule is usually that if I can't make it through the pilot episode then I'm pretty safe. However, there are a few shows that I'm borderline obsessive about and in relation to which that series of tubes known as the Interweb helps me sustain my habit.

These are the current ones:

ReGenesis - is it my imagination, or is David getting way less 'action' this season? Also, Bob angst! Eeee!
Boston Legal - Alan/Denny is love!
New Amsterdam - I think I am mesmerised by Nikolaj Whatsisname's oh-so-sharp-and-pointy nose, which helps me overlook the lack of chemistry between him and 'the one'
Eli Stone - I can't help myself, it's just so dumb and yet I am compelled
Dirt - I love Ian Hart. 'Nuff said.
30 Rock - never thought I'd like Alec Baldwin in something, but...

Stuff I'm desperately waiting for the new season (or, in the case of some channels, stupid second half-season) of:

Life - unexpectedly at the top of the list, after I got smitten last season
Psych - Shawn/Gus is love!
Burn Notice - even though I want to force-feed Gabrielle Anwar with the pies Bruce Campbell needs to stop eating
Blood Ties - shiny!
The Closer - another unexpected addition
Entourage - more shiny!
Dexter - no idea where a third season is going to go....
Heroes - hope they can pull it back together after the shambles they made of most of season 2

There's probably other stuff out there I'm obsessive over as well, but these are the main contenders at the moment... I'm still dling Numb3rs in the hope that one day I will summon up the enthusiasm to catch up with the 6 or so season 4 eps I'm behind on, but who knows when that might happen?
graculus: (geek love)
Apparently season 4 of ReGenesis will air from March 2nd on Canada's Movie Channel. :)
graculus: (Charlie - WTF?)
For my sins, last night I watched the double-length season finale episode(s) of Robin Hood (I can't help thinking of it as 'Robin Hoodie') and Spoilers ahoy! )

Also, why on earth would anyone think we need yet another version of Sense and Sensibility?
graculus: (Charlie - WTF?)
Two minor things about Heroes now I'm all caught up... )

In other news, not like you care, the cold is definitely settling in for the long haul. Need more aspirin. *sigh*
graculus: (geek love)
After enthusing for weeks about Life - yes, I probably will shut up about it at some point, but if you haven't watched it, why not? - I was pleased to hear this week that after more episodes were ordered a while back, it's now been picked up for a full season! :)

Also, Dexter? Just gets better and better. I seriously didn't see that particular twist coming...
graculus: (Charlie - WTF?)
I know I'm a nitpicky old bugger but... Spoilers for Blood Ties 2x05 )
graculus: (geek love)
Random Heroes thoughts now I am all caught up... Spoilers to 2x07 )

Back from [livejournal.com profile] connotations. Well, I actually got back about 2pm on Monday but, you know... ;) BTW, if anyone who didn't go to the con is actually interested in my gen and pre-slash panel, let me know - no badfic panel this year, though I'm hoping it will make its triumphant return in 2008.

It seems as though every year I forget just how entertaining it was last time around and then get surprised all over again. Not that I should, really, when I consider the folks involved! Also I make resolutions about pimping something next year that never quite happen, though I did get roped in to help pimp Boston Legal last year, mainly because the person who was meant to be pimping it had only seen a handful of episodes and I'd made the mistake of admitting I'd seen everything that had aired to date. Perhaps the pimpage for 2008 needs to be Once a Thief, now [livejournal.com profile] obelix has kindly provided me with dvd-source and people can actually see how pretty Nick Lea is in it, rather than having to squint and imagine (like all the copies of copied videos previously available required you to do...).

Now I just have to catch up on all the stuff I've downloaded and haven't watched yet: Blood Ties (season premiere), Boston Legal (ep 4), Dexter (ep 3), Numb3rs (eps 2 and 3), Life (ep 3), Moonlight (ep 3), Pushing Daisies (ep 2), Criminal Minds (ep 3), Heroes (ep 4). Hmm, how did this happen?
graculus: (geek love)
Dexter - he's back! It's always good to see the cast members all returning, and I'm enjoying it so far... :)

Heroes and Boston Legal - both excellent, as usual.

Life - I love this show. That is all.

Journeyman, Numb3rs and Moonlight - still on the 'to be seen' list so nothing so far...
graculus: (geek love)
Numb3rs: Spoilers for 'Trust Metrics' )

Moonlight: Spoilers for 'There's No Such Thing As Vampires' )

So far, returning show top marks goes to Heroes, followed by Boston Legal, though we still have the Dexter season premiere to come. New shows, it's Life by a long way at the moment...
