Who on earth invented these four-way stop things? Yes, I am actually mobile in Nova Scotia, driving on the wrong side of the road, and actually it's not too bad so far, other than the afore-mentioned four-ways and a tense moment with a railway crossing when the lights and bells clearly didn't mean what I thought it did (though at least I was over-cautious rather than dismissive, which always seems to me to be the best idea where car v. train is concerned...).

No real aim today other than to get some driving experience, which I duly did, checking out my route to the airport for Thursday and also heading off to the provincial wildlife park and onwards to the other side of the peninsula to look at the ludicrous tides. And the consumption of coffee and bagels and donuts and such like.

Note to parents at the wildlife park: you might want to actively discourage your kidlets from kicking the wire of the enclosure where the skunks live, not to mention from yelling at them. This is not likely to have an effect that pleases anyone. I am apparently in the minority because I thought the skunks were hellishly cute.

Tim Hortons update: walnut crunch (yum, as always), coconut cream (double yum! Though I think [livejournal.com profile] kitt would not approve, as iirc she has issues with donuts that have stuff in them...).

That's much how I felt in December in Britain, driving on the wrong side of the road and negotiating the round-a-abouts. Very nerve-wracking.

Well, I'm sure my experience has been helped (as was the plan) by the fact that this is Nova Scotia, not a big city, and the weather has also been great - driving in the UK in December is just miserable for everyone.

I also came across a teeny-tiny roundabout here and it was all wrong! Fortunately there was no-one else about, so I didn't have to worry about giving way or not giving way or whatever...

Sorry about the four ways. After driving in New Zealand, I'd be happy if the whole world, or at least my little corner of it, switched over to roundabouts. Once you get used to them, they're awesome.

I've been following your path through the Tim Hortons menu with amusement. You have now officially eaten way more kinds of doughnuts than I have in my life. (I'm loyal to my maple glaze and old fashioned plain.)

And yeah, skunks are kinda cute. Except when they're walking through your backyard and you're trying not to spook them.

I've never understood why people have problems with roundabouts, although I understand that on the European mainland the rule is to give way to people coming onto the roundabout, which seems utterly ludicrous.

I'm kind of wary of some of the glazed products, because although I like donuts, I don't like things which are too sweet (like I suspect is the case with the one they do with the white frosting and sprinkles, which makes my teeth itch just looking at it). In a totally contradictory manner, though, I'm also not keen on the plain ones, as they seem to be too plain. Yes, there is no pleasing me! However, I think there's a reasonable chance I will have sampled the maple glaze before I leave the country. ;)

You gotta try the maple glaze. It's not that sweet. Or at least it's the right kind of sweet, if that makes any sense. I'm with you on the sprinkles. I try one of those about once every ten years, usually because someone brought a box to work and it's the only one left, and it's always a mistake.

Gotta admit the draw to Tim Horton's for me are their scones, which alas, aren't in the US stores. Darn.!

Ah, I was used to the name when I went to the UK. Well, tea biscuits, whatever, they don't have 'em in the States :(

Sounds like you are having fun and yes 4 way stops are a pain since most people forget the rules of who goes first. It's really bad in Montreal where it's whoever has the fastest car on the start up that wins (when they actually do stop) ;-)

Skunk are actually really cute especially the babies (I used to help out the wildlife sanctuary here by transporting abandoned or orphaned baby skunks to the center or their foster homes). They were adorable and they actually make really good pets :-)

YAY on the Timmy's update and I do believe you've eaten some I haven't even tried ;-)

I am making good progress through the menu, and discovered last night by accident that there is even a Tim Hortons hidden just behind the supermarket I've been going to! They really are everywhere! :P

I'm totally cool with four-way stops, but that's probably just because they're a dime a dozen in towns too small to have many (or any) stop lights. Roundabouts, on the other hand, scare the living crap out of me. I have no doubt that I could figure them out if I tried, but I'm just not willing to put that much faith into the other drivers on the road. There's only one in this area that I know of and I avoid it at all costs.

And you're right about the donuts. Filling in donuts is just not right. Although, the concept of coconut cream sounds appealing. Just... not in donut form. Perhaps as frosting on cake or something.

ETA: Also, I'm mildly baffled by the fact that two people on my flist are not only currently on vacation in the same area, but just made back-to-back posts about it o_O

There's nothing wrong with roundabouts, as long (as you say) as everyone does what they're supposed to. However, the rental car guy here did say that nobody in Canada drives as crazy as us in Europe, so the four-way idea would never work there.

Also, I don't think [livejournal.com profile] lamardeuse is on vacation, I think she lives here... ;)

Young skunks remind me of a cross between kittens and ferrets. Just tonight I was watching two young skunks playing. They wrestled, just a blur of black and white stripes with two fuzzy tails flopping about. I would have bet money you'd like skunks. *g*

Yeah, it wasn't too hard to see where my sympathies lie, was it? ;)
