One of the pleasures of not being based in the same place as the person who supervises you: I'm working at home today, writing training materials and also finishing up a couple of sections of the procedures I've been working on.

Just as productive (or not) as being in the office and, frankly, it allows me to miss the combined baby shower/leaving do for one of the admin staff whose ever-expanding stomach I've been watching with dread over the past couple of weeks. Particularly since she's been wearing those t-shirts which don't leave much to the imagination on anyone who isn't imminently expecting what looks like half a basketball team.

Working from home can be so much more productive and restful :-) Nice that you can dot that.

You have those too? We had one of those also at my previous contract. We have quite a few young girls and women who wear the bare midrift look in offices. I don't mind per say but I do get a little perturbed when a woman in her fifties or more is wearing a short shirt baring her midrift and has a pierced navel at the office, couldn't they keep it for the weekends and evenings? But then I'm from the old school of what to wear in an office and bare midrifts I don't consider appropriate ;-)

I tend to dress quite casually at work at times, but I don't think it's appropriate either. Frankly those kind of shirts barely suit people who are stick insects, while those who are just normal shaped let alone heavily pregnant (and I mean heavily) just shouldn't be considering it, imo...

My friend who is a headteacher told a young member of staff that a bare midriff was less than appropriate in school, especially considering the 100% Muslim pupil intake. She was taken to task by the union for 'discriminating against a larger than normal young woman' - who 'found it hard to get T shirts that would tuck in'! - NOT the union I'm an officer in, I hasten to add. They also said they bet she wqouldn't say anything to the Indian girls who bared their midriffs. As she in fact HAD complained to these same girls, this was pretty ironic. I agree - casual is fine, but revealing is for your own time!

I don't think the bare midriff and hiphugger look works even on the ultra skinny. It just creates bulges. I don't get it.

A normal length t-shirt not tucked in is my idea of casual. Maybe it's just a personal taste thing, but I don't really want to see anyone's navel. It makes me think of navel lint.

There's one girl where I'm working at the moment has the whole hip-hugger and short shirt thing going on (not the pregnant lass, who's gone now, someone else). Even though she's pretty skinny, the white floppy flesh showing in the gap as she walks away is quite mesmerising. And not in a good way.

OMG, here's a weird coincidence. I was just telling someone last night about the X-files episode of the Simpsons where Scully has Homer on a treadmill and either she or Mulder comment that the jiggling fat is "mermesizing". "Yes, it's like a lava lamp."

But yeah, that's just it. It creates bulges even on people who hardly have enough flesh to bulge anywhere. I just don't get this fashion trend.
