I keep getting emails from my ISP demanding that I do something called 'SMTP Authentication' in order that I can continue to send email through their server - apparently it's some new scheme to reduce the amount of spam - so if I discover that I can't send stuff to people I'll be looking for a new ISP post haste.

Why? Because the only email programs they give you instructions for on how to make this happen are Windoze ones and I use Pegasus - the help site makes a bland statement about other programs not being supported and that's it. Suddenly I have a whole new understanding for the plight of Mac users. ;)

The latest Eudora for Mac does SMTP authentication.

Does this help at all?

That's an earlier version of Pegasus than I have, but it gives me an idea what to do, so thanks for that... perhaps this will not be so dire as previously thought, who knows?

And BT, it wasn't bad enough that you got into bed with Yahell? You continue to suck like a sucky thing!

"We don't support that" does NOT mean other programs don't do it. It means "We don't want to learn other programs because we are lazy and want to inconvenience you. If you know more than we do, by all means, go right ahead."

Apparently so.

That does not negate my previous comment about BT sucking... ;)

But of course not! ;)

Well, I've done what I *think* they want me to do (the newer version had 3 possibilities and the one I've chosen seems to be working, so we'll see...).

Meanwhile, the suck! ;)

*crosses fingers*

Yes, it's a good thing their users are more competant than they are. ;)

And you thought 'nutters' was bad...

Okay, to cheer you up I'll tell you about my friend's editing experience that was very like the 'nutters' incident. She was again editing in the HP fandom when Snape, and I quote, went 'starkers'. My friend's reaction was of course: when did he strip? I never read about that. ;-) The writer, again hailing from the US, thought 'starkers' was short for 'stark raving mad' not 'stark naked'.

I'm beginning to think folks should just stick to the simple 'nuttier than a fruitcake with extra almonds -- Dundee style'.

Jeez. I'm traumatised now! (even if the image of Snape starkers, in the right way, is oddly compelling...) I think they were searching for 'bonkers' but let's not even go there! ;)

I can't resist: "But, Headmaster," Harry cried, "Professor Snape and Professor Lupin have gone bonking mad!"

Someone sent this to one of my discussion lists once. Maybe some of the HP writers are using it as a reference!
