Is this going to be like the casting of Robert Carlyle in SG 90210, where the Brits go 'yay!' and the non-Brits go'???'.

E.T.A. First new Doctor icon seen less than 25 minutes from the end of Dr Who Confidential, which is not bad for a fandom I'm not in... ;)

Well I did know who Robert Carlyle and I do like the actor but as far as this one is concerned Nope, no idea and I have no problems with that :-)

I'm sure Moffat and the BBC didn't choose him without consideration so I'll trust that they know what they are doing, they haven't disappointed me yet ;-)

Well, I guess it wouldn't have to be that big a rock, if you're not someone involved with the franchise...

Chances are he'll get killed off in the pilot ep, or magically aged down to be a twink, since the casting is all 20-something beautiful and brilliant.

It was inevitable, though - it was pretty clear the writers always wanted to get away from that pesky Stargate and have a cool ship and fill it with lots of hot twentysomethings who weren't constrained by pesky regulations and could mack on one another and/or have their clothes fall off for no apparent reason.
