graculus: (Charlie - WTF?)

Overall, it's been an odd couple of weeks. One of those periods of time where it's only when you look back over it, you realise there's been something of a pattern to it - so much so that I'm off to see the quacks next week for an official word. I've already done the internet-diagnosis so I'm pretty sure I know what's going on, if not why (which is where the doctor comes in...), since the combination of tiredness, mood swings, almost bursting into tears for no apparent reason and feeling like everything is shit kind of point the way quite conclusively towards the D word. Someone I work with asked me if it could have been sparked off by what happened with Remus and Obi, but I just don't know - could be that, could be hormonal or who knows what?

Anyway, life and all that has spiked my reading a bit but I'm currently on book #105 since January 2007, the book in question being Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison. Since my last post in early February, the tally is quite low in comparison to previous periods but shitty RL stuff will do that to you:

Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar (too much plot and sub-plot, don't care about the characters at all...)
Blood Trail by Tanya Huff (werewolves!)
Blood Price by Tanya Huff (mummies!)
Darkland by Liz Williams (fantastic book, highly recommended!)
The White Russian by Tom Bradby (interesting period, bogged down by navel-gazing overdose)
JPod by Douglas Coupland (you'll never look at Ronald McDonald the same way again...)
Before They Are Hanged by Joe Abercrombie (great 2nd book of the trilogy, can't wait for book 3!)
The Haunting of Alaizabel Cray by Chris Wooding (highly recommended)

I have a big pile of books waiting and the Easter holidays approach, so I expect to get through more...

Yes, it may well be hormonal. When I was 37 (supposedly far too young to be having menopause symptoms) I went to the doctor with the symptoms you describe and discovered I was perimenopausal (which is basically a fancy way of saying my hormones were all over the shop because of the menopause). I started taking HRT and felt like a whole new person almost immediately.

So, do ask for a blood test to check. Other symptoms include hot flushes and nights sweats (but not everyone gets those) and my personal favourite demon - insomnia.

My money is on it being hormonal, but we'll see - fortunately my clinic also has blood tests on-site so I can get blood drawn at the same time, thus reducing the wait.

I've not had the pleasure of any of the physical symptoms so far (*crosses fingers*) but I've certainly had the emotional version of hot flushes: fine one minute, almost in tears the next for no reason. It's extremely vexing.
