Even reading my friendslist, I'm wondering how much chance I have of remaining unspoiled for Book 7 (which is what I'm going to call it since I can't be bothered typing everything else), but then I remembered that I haven't actually pre-ordered it. And apparently the release date order deadline from Amazon passed at midnight last night. Oops. And the chances of me spending more than the Amazon-mandated price of £9 for the thing are slim to none, since I don't think I've ever paid full hardback prices for anything.

*shrugs*

Considering that JKR has probably done bad things to all the characters I like to imagine having hot sex with one another, I'm not sure I want to know. Particularly since I already need to rearrange the contents of my bookshelves because stuff is piling up again and a 600+ page hardback doesn't help with that.

Of course, it doesn't help that I don't actually want to go to work today because Telanu has finally finished her lengthy and extremely excellent 'Tea' series and I'd much rather be re-reading all that and reading the new one before my OTC meets a (speculated) grisly end.

Tesco will have it for £8.89, as that's the price Asda were quoting it for before Bloomsbury threw a strop, either because Asda hadn't paid them or because Asda had publicly bitched about the price.

WH Smiths were accepting pre-orders at £8.99 and given that the pre-order got you free gifts as well, I expect that they'll be selling it at that price even without a pre-order.

Sainsburys couldn't tell me how much it would be when they had their pre-order price, but did say that it would be the same as other stores, and might be as low as £7.

So what I'm saying is that you'll still be able to get it for as little as Amazon were selling it for, without the delivery charge and without the delivery midday at your local supermarket.

In fact, last year one bookshop sold out at full price, and simply went to their local Tescos, bought some more stock at Tesco prices and sold them on at full price. I can't remember where it was, but I remember it made the BBC News website.

My local Sainsburys were advertising a late-night opening complete with 'pop-up wand' offer... as if ordinary wands weren't quite phallic enough already? ;)

Oh, but you could go and buy it at midnight. It would be kind of nice except for the price, that is.

I'll have to spend around 20 euros, because it's an import. Luckily FNAC is nice enough to have tons of books so we don't run out, but I might go and pre-order one just in case.

I'm not going at night because all my friends are outside Barcelona and we want to buy together, but I already know what I am going to do next Saturday, even if I haven't been very excited about this and I'm pretty sure some of my favourite characters are going to die.

Right now the thing that would leave me satisfied is dead Harry. *g*

Apparently I stand a reasonable chance of picking it up cheaply at the supermarket? You could always avoid the internet and walk around with your fingers in your ears till you come over to London... ;)

I never expected to see the end of 'Tea'. I honestly thought it was going to be one of those great unfinished series that haunt fandom.

What is the "Tea" series? ::remains ignorant here::

The 'Tea' series is the most humongously long and plot-heavy seven part Snape/Harry series - the longest of the previous parts posted to date was almost 200,000 words and this final part is over 80,000 words - written by one of the number of HP slash writers who are better writers than JKR by quite a way...

Snape/Harry!

Although I'm not impressed by Rowling's style by a long shot, I would like to point out that she started out writing for a different audience from a slash audience. Just sayin'. ;-)

Yes indeedy. :)

IIRC, Telanu was one of the people who originally led me astray back when that was pretty much my reaction... also it could be said that JKR has seriously missed out considering the amount of perversity the wizarding world has generated, one way or another. ;)

Heh, oh yes, lots and tons of peversity...she's set it up incredibly well for that - it's amazing how *dark* her world of Harry Potter can get, even if you're not really of that bent. She could really go for the all-out horror aspect of the series, if she wanted. Yeah, if Rowling wanted to, man. What a gold-mine. Talk about Dark Tower!

I'm so pleased it did finally get finished and am seriously tempted to abuse the office laser printer to get a complete copy of the whole series, but given that 'A Wizard Song' was almost 200,000 words I will need to plan carefully... ;)

No worries about spoilage from me, unless I read someone *else's* spoilage about the book. After the last badly written entry, so slow in plot it moved like molasses, I'm reluctant to plonk down the US$18-20.00 it would take to find out the ending!

I don't think the library is going to be a good alternative, either: that book won't be available for *months*, by which time, I'll know what the ending is. *sighs*

Woe.

But who should know better than us that the Nile isn't just a river in Egypt? ;)
