1. Moose were apparently designed by committee, as they have approx. 33% more leg than they actually need and/or can control at any pace faster than walking.

2. I will never complain about the roads in England ever again. Ever. We don't know what potholes are!

3. It is completely possible to fall off the vegetarian wagon where fish and shellfish are concerned (anyone who hasn't seen the restaurant menus over there does not get to judge me!) and then pick up being a veggie again with relief when you get back to civilisation.

4. That I am incredibly glad digital cameras were invented as I took hundreds of photos and would have bankrupted myself if we were still in the world of processing. Plus this way nobody gets to see the crap, out of focus ones, of which there were quite a few.

5. Icebergs are both literally and metaphorically cool. Pics to follow. ;)

While I sort out my pics of Newfoundland, I thought I'd mention a little game/form of torture that was invented at this year's MW - for this, I blame Dr Sheldon Cooper and his plans for surviving the apocalypse:

"In here you’ll find emergency provisions: 8-day supply of food and water, a crossbow, season 2 of Star Trek – the Original Series on a high-density flash drive."
"What if there’s a disaster that destroys all the usb-ports?"
"Then there’s really no reason to live, is there?"

I happened to mention that quote to [livejournal.com profile] myfieldnotes, [livejournal.com profile] mrwubbles and [livejournal.com profile] penfold_x as part of my attempt to pimp The Big Bang Theory but that I wouldn't have chosen ST:TOS myself and thus a monster was created!

Your mission, should you choose to accept it - the apocalypse is nigh, you can only have one season of a television show of your choice on a high-density flash drive for future entertainment. What do you choose and why? Do you go for a great season of a series that later lost its way (Stargate SG-1, you know I'm looking at you!) or the only season of a show cancelled too soon? Do you need drama or amusement in the bleak days to come?

First stop, the lovely city of Toronto, solely for the fact that I could get a cheap flight there without going down to Heathrow and then drive down to the border with [livejournal.com profile] obelix. I should probably mention that the outskirts of Pearson International Airport look like the roads were designed by someone tipping a pot of spaghetti onto a map and so I was forced to get my satnav out and try the US-Canada-Mexico chip I'd bought much earlier than I had expected!

South to the border, it was time to blag my way into the US. Again. The fools, they keep letting me in! Then, it was on to exotic Lansing to hang out with a bunch of folks who only have to put up with me once a year. ;)

Alas, during MW I missed out on [livejournal.com profile] przed's Sherlock Holmes panel because I was asleep (and on dinner with [livejournal.com profile] przed and co. because I am a disorganised dumbass) and the UNCLE slash panel because I couldn't find it (what was with that?), though I did attend one on White Collar and a Glee slash panel as well. Yes, really!

And then it was over, for another year! :( Though I still had my holiday in Newfoundland to look forward to! :) (Yikes, I appear to be doing the emoticon equivalent of [livejournal.com profile] moonlettuce and her interpretative dance!) And so it was that I got up at oh-my-god-it's-early and jumped on a plane to St. John's, making sure I didn't accidentally get on a plane to Saint John instead as that would have taken me to a whole different province.

I spent a few days in St. John's, which is a city built on a decided slope, though I didn't take all that many pics there. For that side of the island, I'd decided to stay in the city and drive out to places rather than do the tour round I would do later on the Labrador side and I'm not sure if that was all that good an idea. Though I did get to catch up on my sleep and got my first sunburn of the trip so it wasn't all bad!

Here be pics, part 1 )

Next post - a few more pics from the east of the island, then it's time to jump on a plane and head west, to Deer Lake and beyond! :P
