How my holiday worked out is that I stayed in St. John's and drove around from Wednesday to the following Sunday, catching a plane from there to Deer Lake (as opposed to a 9 hour drive) on the Monday morning.
I'd hoped, as I was there at the weekend, I would get the chance to go sea kayaking - there's a well-known firm that has been doing trips for many years but sadly there was not enough interest expressed for them to go out on the days I was in town. This also puzzled the woman who I spoke with, who said people had rung up before demanding to go out when it was snowing and when there was perfect weather for kayaking, the phone didn't ring at all (except for me!).
Speaking of the weather, I have to say I think I was extremely lucky as I really only had two miserable days when it rained a lot. The rest of the time it was at least dry, with many quite warm and sunny days in there, which means very little photoshopping required of photos to make them look that way!
