How to show you have little to no understanding of how fandom works in one easy lesson:
"All I've been reading about the last couple of days is Ben Browder so I suppose Jack and Daniel or original team stories will very soon be a dying genre. All the good fanfic writers will only be writing stories about the new kid on the block."
*tries not to laugh*
Yes, like everyone stopped writing team and Jack/Daniel when Michael Shanks left the show and suddenly there was a rash of Jonas fic from everyone as we all promptly forgot who that Daniel guy was and heartily embraced tptb's new kewl handsome hunk. Probably in some other mirror universe of our own, maybe, but not this one...
Of course, those of us who're not J/D OTP are less thrown by this possibility, I think, as the loveliness that is Daniel/Teal'c should also continue unabated... mmmm... :)

Date: 2005-01-13 08:09 am (UTC)Honestly, after the way things have gone on SG-1 during the past several years, I've had to resort to thinking of all J/D stories I read as having taken place in an alternate universe anyway -- you know, one in which the characters actually like each other and exhibit some chemistry together -- so this will just strengthen that habit. Makes me long for all those nice cancelled shows where canon is set in stone and TPTB cannot continue to break your heart on a weekly basis...
Re: "oh my god, the fandom is *doomed*!!"
Date: 2005-01-16 10:22 am (UTC)Speaking of AU's, did I ever send you my novella, or did you buy 'Off the Record' in the end (because it's in that one)?
I am never getting into a live show ever again. It's too painful watching untalented hacks with all the imagination of a soggy cornflake bastardise the characters you love, or alternatively ignore them or use them as comedy alien. Grrrr.
Re: "oh my god, the fandom is *doomed*!!"
Date: 2005-01-18 04:54 am (UTC)I did indeed purchase "Off the Record" -- I love all of Annie's zines, and buy them as soon as they come out (thanks for pointing me her way, lo those many moons ago). I am sorry, as I thought I'd already told you how much I enjoyed your story (but knowing what a disorganized flake I am, I probably got distracted by something bright and shiny, despite my best intentions). I always enjoy your SG writing very much, but I thought this was a real departure; it was a very different idea, a nice twist on canon, and yet very true to our Jack and Daniel. (I also thought it stood out from the rest of the stories in the zine, frankly.) I thought you did a nice job of depicting a Jack and Daniel recognizably of that era, and yet still with the character traits of our guys; and I thought the emotional intensity between them was quite compelling. Very well done.
And I'm with you on avoiding live shows. Give me a dead show any day.

Re: "oh my god, the fandom is *doomed*!!"
Date: 2005-01-18 10:24 pm (UTC)Oh, come on, you know you want to...look at those lovely bums in those tight trousers! Although I do see the Pros lads as being a tad thuggish for your tastes, frankly. Now me, I have to admit to a certain weakness for the shoot-first-and-think-later mob, but then I'm shallow like that. :)
Re: "oh my god, the fandom is *doomed*!!"
Date: 2005-01-19 05:22 pm (UTC)Of course the fact I don't find either Bonehead or Foyle at all attractive (particularly the poodle perm *shudders*) doesn't help matters.
Re: "oh my god, the fandom is *doomed*!!"
Date: 2005-01-19 07:31 pm (UTC)Hmmm -- yeah, "brilliant" is not exactly the first word that comes to mind when discussing Bodie or Doyle...
And I know what you mean about the poodle perm. Although Doyle has grown on me -- but I'm much more of a Bodie fan. (I do like them big and stupid, yes, why do you ask?)
