Just finished reading 'Howl's Moving Castle' by Diana Wynne Jones which, quite frankly, was a writer I'd never heard of before there was a suggestion that Miyazaki was making a movie based on this book as his follow up to 'Spirited Away'.

Damn. What a great book! It's all [livejournal.com profile] khek's fault for raving about it over on OS. I can't wait to see what Miyazaki makes of that, though I know they've already said it's only loosely based on the book.

Anyone read any of her other books, like 'Castle in the Air', which is supposedly a sequel?

E.T.A. For a movie that's only loosely based on the book, the characters sure look familiar. ;)

Diana Wynne Jones has been a favourite of mine for years, though I haven't read Howl's yet. I'm rather fond of her book Archer's Goon, and her Tough Guide to Fantasyland is hilarious.

Castle in the Air (the book, *not* the film) is a sort of sequel, in that it's set in the same universe, and some of the same people show up, but she almost never does direct sequels (there is one I can think of off hand. ) The book was a disappointment to me, but her Charmed Life, and Power of Three are to this day two of my favorite books. I think I actually own all of them except Wilkin's Tooth and The Ogre Downstairs. they aren't all fantastic, but they are almost all good. IMO *g*

I can't believe you've never come across her before. I've read her books all my life.

Sorry for the delay on posting this, but I'm just now getting caught up after not having an Internet connection for a month following the move to a new apt. -- and then the inevitable additional delay caused by my being intimidated by the thought of catching up after the initial delay. (Yes, I am indeed aware that I'm truly pathetic, thanks for asking.)

I loved DWJ's books for kids -- "Dogsbody" was lovely, read that one at about 11 yrs of age -- and for young adults. Her Dalemark Quartet is always on my recs list. I do so miss working in a library...
