Oh dear, the signs are all there...

E.T.A. - not a ferret injury/serious illness/impending death post!

A while back, poor Dougal had to take a trip to the vets because his anal glands were blocked. It's not pleasant, to say the least, though he suffered it with equanimity and an expression on his face as if to say 'why me?' when the vet did the business of squeezing. In fact, I think the vet suffered as much as Dougal did, if the way he jumped over to the window to fling it open was anything to go by... ;)

After that, going back to reception to pay was like one of those cartoons with a skunk, where a little black cloud of pong floats overhead. By this point, since he was already feeling much better, Dougal was attempting to chew his way out of the carrier, though all you could see through the gaps was teeth. I saw the questioning expression on people's faces as they wondered what kind of creature I had in there!

This time round, it's Remus, and this is Bad. Capital letter well deserved. Because Remus is the evil biting weasel of doom, who will exact his bloody revenge on me (and the vet as well, probably, if he's within biting range) for even daring such ignominies.

Times like this I'm wishing Petrificus Totalis really worked! :P

Scruffing won't cut it? I know that on my Spirit, scruffing = instant paralasis and lots of yawning. Not to mention even a ferret can't bite the back of their own neck! What about giving him some ferretone or better yet in this case, ferret-lube (hairball stuff). Mine will usually get so hung up on getting the good crack you can do anything to them.

I'm not optimistic about scruffing being sufficient with Remus, since I'm sure it's really unpleasant having your glands squeezed and he's not a small ferret to start with.

Ferretone works fine for clipping his claws but again, it's probably not quite enough of a distraction when a strange man is fiddling with your arse... ;)

Well, okay... there is that. I'm trying to remember what they had to for my dog who used to have the exact same problem...

In any event, wish your little guy the best for me.

Waldo.

Indeed. Words to live by!
What a line. :-D

I hope all goes well at the vet's.
