Still, maybe in a way it's nice that they're moving closer to the fundamentalist viewpoint, in spite of everything. Maybe the last few years have all been about love/hate?
I'm interested - would there be any exceptions to the ruling? If a pregnancy is the result of a rape, perhaps? Or if pregnancy is dangerous to the mother? Or if it's a teenage pregnancy?
And how will the country deal with the effects of all the illegal abortions carried out? Will the women be put in jail? What about all the children who are put up for adoption? Who will pay for their welfare and upbringing?
And how many women will take a "holiday" to another country while pregnant and go home miraculously not pregnant - will those women be arrested on their return?
Oh, and is this ban being brought by men, perchance?
Kind of makes you appreciate anywhere-but-here, doesn't it? I swear, Canada looks better by the minute. Not that it doesn't anyway, but this just confirms it.
Canada is doing better but we are having a resurgence of right wing fundamentalism and it's scary. Depending on how things go tomorrow in the House of Commons we might end up with an election and who knows the Conservatives (which I call Bush's wannabes) might just get elected and then we will be singing pretty much the same tune...
