I finally got a digital camera (hey, I needed an all-in-one so when there was a good deal going with a camera involved as well, who am I to turn it down?) so cue hideously cute pics of the children...

They make excellent pets, imo, though the majority of people still have no idea about them. It's easier now to find food for them (assuming you don't want to give them whole rabbits to gnaw on) than it was when I had my Seamus nearly 10 years ago and vets seem to be a little more clued into the idea of people keeping them as pets as well.

All mine are all from rescue centres, though. In some ways it can be much easier to get an adult that's already nip-trained than getting a kit and putting up with all that.

Just to chip in... as a someone who was only recently owned by ferrets, get the book "Ferrets for Dummies". It's FABULOUS when trying to decide if they're right for you... and then what the hell to do with them once you have them.:)

Found a very amusing website that describes how to decide if ferrets are for you and what to do with them once they've taken over your life and belongings. Am very tempted - especially as ferrets and cats are not mutually exclusive. Am fairly sure the cat would behave as described 'disdainfully ignoring the impudent newcomer' *g*

Not sure I can face going back to cute furries who insist on eating the carpets though. I've only just replaced the one that Danny the rat turned into bedding.

Ferrets are not rodents. They don't chew incesantly. They don't have teeth that need to be maintained in that way.

They dig - but plastic carpet runners can help with that.
They hide things. It'll probably be in one piece when you find it, but that's only if you find it.
But in general, they don't chew things to death. :)
