Day 9 - Best scene ever
I'm not sure if any one scene can count as 'best scene ever' but in terms of impact on my actions, I would probably have to go with the one scene in Magnificent Seven that made me ship my main pairing (can't really say OTP because I have both read and written others) almost in a heartbeat. I'd never quite expected one single scene to be able to do that, since usually its a cumulative thing, but anyway...
For those who don't know the fandom, my pairing of choice consists of Ezra Standish (gambler and conman) and Nathan Jackson (former slave now turned doctor), in a fandom set shortly after the end of the Civil War. They end up as two of the afore-mentioned seven, unlikely peacekeepers in small Western town that sees more than its fair share of trouble, one way or another.
In this particular episode, 'Working Girls', our heroes fall foul of a local pimp who runs a local tent city-cum-brothel and end up with a bunch of prostitutes hiding out in town after the pimp turns violent. In the scene in question, Ezra takes it upon himself to try and tutor said prostitutes in the female graces, telling them that they're much more likely to land themselves a husband if they can at least behave in a ladylike manner - he sees a new career for them as mail-order brides, with a small percentage as finders fee for himself. One of them points out that marriage is just legalised prostitution, except for no money.
So, there's Ezra coaching the would-be ladies in his 'charm school' and Nathan walks in; he proceeds to tear a strip off Ezra and asks him why he would think Nathan would sit by and watch these women be sold off 'like cattle', considering his own experiences. For once, Ezra is lost for words - this is really not something that happens to him in the series at all, though he's often known for saying a lot without saying very much at all - there's an amazing tension between the two and *sproing* I was shipping it. ;)
