At some point, I promise to do proper posts about my trip to Sri Lanka (with pics and everything), but somehow I can't quite seem to get into the right mindset - I think if I hadn't come back with this sprain, it might have happened when I got back but I still have 250 or so pics to sort through before I can do it any justice.

It was a good introduction to the island, though perhaps not as restful as I could have done with as we didn't stay in many places more than one night, except for Kandy and the coast, the latter being a beach resort that really didn't do it for me. At least if I go back, I know where I'll want to spend more time. It also didn't help that it was unseasonably wet, making even our guide wonder what was going on. On the plus side, I easily ate my body weight in both extremely good curry (to the point where I've actually bought a cookbook in the hope of replicating some of them) and fresh fruit.

Unfortunately, it looks as though my well-travelled point-and-shoot camera is on its last legs as it's sucking down batteries like there's no tomorrow. The pictures are still pretty good but not good enough to compensate for the battery thing, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's 9 or 10 years old so I suppose it was bound to happen eventually. I'm currently trying to decide whether to replace it with something similar or buy myself a DSLR instead, with all the potential for obsessive behaviour that implies...

In other news, I'm back at work now and waiting on a physio appointment for my wrist. It's significantly better than it was but still not great, particularly when it comes to driving, which is very much part of the job.

And I'm thinking about my next holiday, which should come as no surprise to anyone... ;)

Glad you had a good time. I can recommend the Panasonic Lumix TZs - light and use Leica lenses. I have a little belt holster for mine. While you can use manual they have an intelligent auto setting which is great. The latest one also has a black and white option which can create wonderful images. (Sold by John Lewis so you can order and pick up from nearest branch of JL or Waitrose.)

I also have the Lumix G (SLR type). Took me a while to sort out manual settings - I was doing a London at Dawn photo course - but I got there. However, while everyone else was struggling with tripods I ditched mine after the first week and did a lot of low light hand held shots. This is smaller and lighter than all the other equivalents.

BTW if batteries are rechargeable could be that they need replacing.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will definitely check those out. As for the battery issue, sadly the problem was with ordinary batteries so it's definitely the camera.

I shall look forward to the pics!! Where are you planning for next time? :)

I hope work turns out okay, and your wrist is better soon.

First lot of pics are up - I hadn't realised I never posted my Costa Rica pics, that just shows how shitty things were last year... I'm currently looking at the Outer Hebrides as I think I'm bored with flying at the moment, so that'll be late April/early May at the earliest.

My wrist is already better, I have been given homework by the physio and I'm back there again on Wednesday for further treatment. Work is also looking good so far, so fingers crossed 2013 is a better year!

Flying is a drag unfortunately, I really do wish those transporters would come in sooner rather than later!! Scotland is good... better if it's not raining, so I shall keep fingers crossed.

I'm glad the wrist is getting better xx

Yeah, travel is great if it weren't actually for the whole getting there side of things... Scotland will be great once I've worked out all the practicalities around ferries and such like. ;)

The wrist is definitely better, so hopefully my physio will be happy with me when I see her again tomorrow.
