The TV axe starts to fall...

Yes, it's that time of year again, the time when you find out whether you picked a winner and your show is likely to get picked up for a further season or whether the TV gods are just not smiling on you. The victims so far:

Common Law (sadly, we all guessed this was coming...)
Fairly Legal (which managed to make an actress I really like very annoying)
Political Animals (living on forever in endless Tumblr gifs of Sebastian Stan half-naked)
Last Resort (damnit all)
666 Park Avenue (can't comment, as I haven't seen it...)
Partners (deeply unfunny sitcom from the creators of Will and Grace)

In better news, Elementary picked up additional episodes meaning season 1 will be 24 episodes long, boding well for a second season order and Grimm is kicking arse ratings-wise so I'm hoping a season 3 announcement won't be too long in coming... Oh, and Haven got picked up for another 13 episode season.

Why would the world need shows with good scripts and good acting when it can have another from the CSI franchise? ;)

The usual: terrible ratings. 666 Park Avenue and Last Resort were, by wide margins, the worst performing dramas on network television that hadn't already been axed (hello, Made in Jersey). You need a real deal with Satan or access to actual nukes in order to keep your show on the schedule under those conditions.

Despite liking both the cast and Shaun Ryan, I didn't bother to tune into Last Resort because I was certain the center of the show was going to be some kind of ~eeeeevil~ government conspiracy, in which the writers paint people who have different politics to theirs as sociopaths. Sorry, not interested in yet another round of that crap. I'm hoping this frees Andre Braugher up to do something worth of his skills.

Yeah, what you said. Seen the first two episodes and am loving Andre Braugher all over again, but this is no surprise at all. :)

Didn't really watch any of those axed - saw five minutes of Partners and said, "Oh, David Krumholtz, you're better than this" before switching, though I wonder how other equally terrible sitcoms (2 Broke Girls, ahem) have survived.

But, yay, Haven! It's another one of those shows on which I can't stand one of the actors (Eric Balfour), but I adore the show anyway. It's come a long, long way and frequently passes Bechdel, which pleases me.

Yep, I got about 10 minutes into Partners and couldn't bare to watch any more. I think my recently acquired love of Max from Happy Endings has spoiled me for more stereotypically gay characters and also the lack of a laughter track just seemed to oddly underline how unfunny Partners was. I'm not sure David Krumholtz is really sitcom material, to be honest...

As for Haven, I'm about a season behind and I've always liked Eric Balfour ever since Veritas: The Quest (another show cruelly killed before its time) though Emily Rose has started aggravating me a bit. *shrugs*
