On my website, I have a couple of recs pages. They're nothing spectacular, just a compilation of the fic I like, the authors whose stuff I like to read and a reminder to myself of where certain stories are that I might want to re-read at some point. In addition to this, if they're of use to someone else, that's cool too.

Colour me amused tonight when I receive an email from someone pimping their Snape/Harry fic to me.

I think I'd be more impressed if not only was this person fishing randomly for comments to someone they don't know but if they hadn't also sent the exact same email to someone else who runs a much more impressive recs website than my own. Who knows how many people they've spammed by now? ;)

Well, it was a little more oblique than that, but the thought is still there:

"I wonder if you'd possibly be interested in checking out my SS/HP fic [name removed to protect the guilty] which I finished days ago."

Gee, whole *days* ago?

"I don't mind negative criticism in the least, and if you were at all interested, I'd love to know what you thought of it. If not, no harm done, of course, I'll just be left waiting for the next update to your reccies site."

The sheer use of the word 'reccies' is enough to send me screaming down the corridor... ;)

Hee...'reccies.'

In a similar vein, I saw something posted a mailing list the other day that just cracked me up (and not just because of the spelling):

im challenging yout to make me a story with harry and lucius. But there is a catch there most be an anrgry Draco that wants harry it must take place after the 5th year abd there must be an ending. It's due when ever and you must send it to my email address.

It was addressed to the entire list in general, and I'm thinking...holy lick, does that work? Can I just go on a mailing list, tell people to write me some Snapledore, and they'll do it? What if I ask for chocolate? Or cash?

...this has possibilities.

Alas, no, I don't think demanding fic be written to your personal specifications *and* sent to you (preferably on a tray carried by naked men) really works. Unfortunately. Otherwise wouldn't everyone be doing it?

Ditto for chocolate.
