Yes, today is the first anniversary of my current job! \o/

Despite occasional aggravations, I'm still enjoying myself although I would definitely like to be a little less busy most of the time. I've had my current boss for about 6 months now and she's a vast improvement on the previous one, pretty much letting me get on and do my thing but happy to chew stuff over and/or backing me up when necessary.

The only downside is that we're facing partial reorganisation next year (the bane of local government!), where I stand a chance of losing 2 members of staff from a permanent complement of 6 (+ 1 agency worker, also not likely to stay much beyond January). Of course we're being told the workload heading our way will also reduce but somehow I doubt it's going to drop by over a third!

Taking this job was definitely the right decision, although the words 'and what's your career plan?' from my boss earlier this week kind of stymied me a little. I certainly can't see myself being in this job in 10 years time, but I also can't see myself being in hers! I'm a little more interested in academia, as I've always enjoyed running training, but the money is lousy. However, given the government keeps moving the retirement age back, I may never get to not be working regardless... ;)

The only downside is having to be a grown-up more than I'd like, because I have to take responsibility not only for myself (which is bad enough) but for my team as well! Fortunately they're a good bunch, now I've got rid of the troublemakers/useless ones, so that's not as much of a chore as it might otherwise be...
