graculus: (Charlie - WTF?)

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but we have a couple of overseas workers in our office, one of whom is from Zimbabwe. I feel really sorry for her every time I see her because she's usually bundled up like she's about to head for the North Pole (fleece jacket, at least three layers under that, even a fleece hat all the time...) and I know it must be cold here compared to Harare at the moment (apparently it's 25°C over there, as opposed to approx. 10°C here).

However, people's tolerance and sympathy is wearing a bit thin after a) she left the office on Friday and didn't turn the heater she has about two inches away from her desk off before she left and so nearly set the building on fire, and b) fell asleep at her desk this afternoon. I'd heard she had done that before, but I thought the person who told me that was kidding - now I've seen it with my own eyes!

I've seen workplace shenanigans of all sorts, but this is the first time I've seen anyone nod off... I'm about to move into that room for a couple of weeks, so that's going to be entertaining. I think every time I went past that office today I opened the door and turned off the heater, regardless of whether or not H. was in there. ;)

My sister has a friend from North or South Carolina, and she's kind of the same way about the Toronto winter, which is mildish compared to other areas.

And in my first job in Ottawa in the nursing agency, there were lots of nurses and assistants who'd often fall asleep during their shift. Of course, it was night time, but still.
