Well, I just emailed the ferret shelter where I got Narcissa and Bellatrix from, asking if I can go and swap them for the hob I was also looking at - yes, I've resigned myself to the fact that the girls are just not going to get on with my threesome, which defeats the object of having them in the end. What I wanted was to add to my existing group, not set up another group which I probably wouldn't give as much attention as they deserve. However, having spent almost two weeks of them screaming their little lungs out at (mostly) Dougal every time he comes near them, not to mention the stinky aftermath of those encounters, I can't see integration happening...

Meanwhile, Remus got a trip to the vet this afternoon as he has a lump on his head which the vet thinks may be the result of a polyp inside his ear. She cleaned a load of gunk out, but didn't think it was just an infection as the lump was quite solid - the location makes operating quite tricky and painful, so we may be looking at steroids if it gets any worse. This vet is one I haven't seen before, but she has two ferrets of her own and in general I've been very happy with this particular vets after having not so good experiences with another one in the city.

The shelter's response was 'oh well, we've got plenty of others!' so I think they must be accustomed to this sort of thing... it's a shame because they're a lovely pair but it's this or end up with two hutches full of weasels who can't ever be alone together and that's way more free time than I have.

Hopefully the hob (whose name is Woody) will prove a bit more resilient than the drama queen girls. Seriously, if one of them had just put Dougal in his place (because the jills are normally top of the pecking order), I don't think it would be an issue but neither of them looks like they want to do anything where he's concerned other than scream and cower. Pfft.
