The new year (and the weeks before it) will see a major change in things up in the attic where I work.

At the moment I have something of a cushy number, sharing an office with just one other person (who I've always got on well with, since we've been working together for almost 5 years). However, at the end of next week she's off to a new job, leaving me on my lonesome for a little while at least.

I'm a little unsettled by this - we had a sarcastic yet relatively harmonious existence, and there's always the possibility that whoever I end up sharing with won't necessarily click with me so well. I'm an awkward bugger at the best of times! ;) I've given my manager my shortlist of People Who Will Die Horribly By My Hand If I Am Forced To Work With Them, so I can only hope he takes this seriously!

Of more concern in the longer term is the fact we're also about to get a new area manager. The present incumbent is a nice guy (even if he is a Villa fan), if a little ineffectual. The newcomer has the reputation of being a bitch who always likes to have her own way.

I could do without the hassle of finding a new job, but somehow I suspect that my currently flexible working arrangements, that allow me time for college days and such, will come under scrutiny at some point in the near future. Trying to be optimistic here, but I work for local government! *sigh*

In better news, I just sat down and booked all my leave for the rest of the financial year and I get the feeling I'm just not going to actually *be* at work much between now and April. What with an impending trip to Barcelona and a couple of college blocks, and deciding I really would like to have some time off before I go to Connexions in April.

I knew there had to be *some* perks to this job! It's called 30 days paid leave a year. ;)

Good luck - you stomp that newcomer so she doesn't up and bite everyone in the ass! Threaten her with ferrets or something (I know you wouldn't do it, but she won't ;) It sounds horribly similar to what happened with me; but like an idiot I put up with it for the last 4 years. Suspect you have more backbone :)

Enjoy Barcelona!
