Dec. 7th, 2003 01:31 pmI just found out that the woman I usually board my ferrets with (and from who I got Remus and Obi about 6 months ago) died on Friday.
A major loss to ferret welfare in this area, since Adrie was a dynamic woman, working hard to educate people and she rehomed literally hundreds of ferrets over the period of time she was actively involved in rescue. She was very much against widespread breeding of ferrets for show purposes (a stand I totally agree with), since she used to often end up with the inbred rejects - ferrets with jaws that meant they couldn't eat easily, or with deformed feet like my Lily.
I have to admit, though, that my immediate response was 'oh shit, who's going to look after the weasels when I go to Barcelona in January?', but I think I might have found someone...

Re: Oh NO!
Date: 2003-12-07 12:17 pm (UTC)He basically said he couldn't imagine carrying on without her, which I can understand since she basically did ferret rescue full-time and he worked. I don't know how many ferrets they have in at the moment, but they had over 20 of their own and whatever ones they were looking to rehome, so I guess they'll take some time to wind things down completely, between him and their grown-up daughter.
