More on the money-eating weasel of doom
Apr. 3rd, 2007 10:15 amWe saw our regular vet, who's seen quite a bit of Lily over the past few months, this morning and she was somewhat less sanguine about her chances than the guy we saw last night. After taking a sample of the fluid, she discovered there was quite a bit of blood in it and also things that make her think it might be cancer, though there's still a chance it's a severe infection. If it's not an infection, Lily's chances of surviving an operation are pretty much nil at the moment.
Still, after a bit of a discussion, she has drained quite a bit of fluid from Lily in the hope that this will make her feel better, as well as giving her another couple of shots, and she's come home with me, so I can keep an eye on her. On the way home, I have to admit I was in two minds over turning the car around and going back to have Lily put to sleep there and then.
I know it's awful, but since she doesn't seem to be suffering, I couldn't bring myself to agree to it today because, while I'm already in bits to some extent, I have stuff I have to do for work this week and know I'm going to just dissolve into a puddle when it does happen. The vet obviously thinks she doesn't have long, because while there was an option of having Lily stay there, she kept saying "I don't want her to die in hospital" and I couldn't bring myself to argue with her.
