Stop, you're making me feel old...
Mar. 8th, 2007 12:50 pmI'm not working today or tomorrow, so I've just been to get my hair cut. Anyway, the place I go to usually has really appalling choice in background music and today was no exception - one of those 'school days' compilations, which effectively means music from the early 1980s. Which for many of us, myself included, conjures up all sorts of (mostly unpleasant) memories of school discos.
Imagine my mortification when, on commenting that the Adam Ant track currently being played is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, my (mid-20's) hairdresser tells me that she's never heard of him. It doesn't seem that long ago that you couldn't turn on the television without seeing Adam Ant, but alas it's longer than I care to consider... ;)

Date: 2007-03-08 02:08 pm (UTC)Several of the girls seem to be barely old enough to have left school, and their main topic of conversation is clubbing or their friends' babies. They have tats and belly-rings on display because their clothes hardly cover them (or their underwear), and seem to be named after pop stars and soap characters. The music is usually from some commercial radio station with lots of irritating ads, and the lyrics and tunes are often familiar even if the current artist isn't, while terms like 'classic' and 'anthem' have new meanings...
