Hmmm. I was thinking 'oh, I really should post something that isn't about work' and wanted to write about where I'm up to in terms of writing various things but my brain just ground to a halt due to incipient boredom. Does anyone really care about all that stuff, anyway? Don't you just want the fic, damnit, with no care about the process? I know I do, half the time I'm reading writer's journals and they're updating me on what they're doing... ;)

So, instead of actually me posting something and prevaricating that way, here's a meme (gakked from [livejournal.com profile] dementordelta in most recent times):

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom-specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Or I could just post weasel pics. Because I always get the feeling people are more interested in the kids and what they've been up to than anything I could say... ;)

Oh, and Rome season 2? Is fab. Why don't I have a Vorenus/Pullo icon? *ponders*

It's all the fault of the internet. I'd been a fan of various things since as long as I can remember - I have strong mental images of 'The Arabian Affair' from when I was about 8, which started off my being smitten with IK - but it was always quite a solitary thing, since it never occurred to me that people en masse would be into the same things I was into.

And then, before I personally was online, I was really enjoying this new show called Stargate SG-1 whose first season had just aired in the UK and wanted to know whether any more episodes had been made. So I went online, at work after hours since I wasn't online at home, and found (in quick succession) lots of websites about the show and then fanfic, and then slash (but that's another story altogether!).

That was in about September/October 1998, by January 1999 I was online and joining mailing lists and by March 1999 I was posting my first (gen) fic. Fortunately my first encounters with fellow fans were mostly not of the 'omg, what a nutjob!' type (though there have been a few of those along the way too...) but with people some of whom I'm still regularly in touch with. Nutjobs, but nice nutjobs with similar tastes. ;)
