Hmmm. You know, there's really no way to answer this - if you claim that you don't give a damn about writing for an audience anyway, it comes across as 'I only care for the purity of my muse!'-style asshattery; if you admit you've got these kind of ideas and would write them if only you didn't care what your readers would think, you look like a feedback whore.

Heads or tails? You choose... Self-indulgent ideas? I'm currently writing a story in which at one point Jack O'Neill set fire to his own underpants (not while he was wearing them, I hasten to add!), what could be more self-indulgent than that? ;)

But I do that all the time... Maybe as a canon junkie, my self indulgence is having the lads act like themselves rather than angst ridden drama whore spies, neanderthal thugs or idiots.

Thing is, I can't see how all fic isn't ultimately self-indulgent, because I can't get my head round the concept of writing stuff because other people want you to, not because you want to.

But then I have a hard enough time getting sufficient done to please myself, let alone anyone else... ;)
