Random mumblings from a jetlagged mind...
Sep. 6th, 2003 12:37 pmWell, I'm back. So, they changed stuff with Livejournal and it just took me ages to figure out how to get a link to update - not impressed.
Anyhoo, I remember now why I hate overnight transatlantic flights. It's this 'cotton wool in my head instead of brains' feeling that plagues me when I come back - at least this time I have given myself leeway to recover before going back to work on Monday. Unlike last time when I amused everyone greatly by drifting off mid-sentence...
Atlanta was hot. Damn hot. It was the humidity that almost killed me, I think. Never been a fan of aircon before, but I worship at the feet of its inventor now, yes sirree. Got upgraded to an apartment when I got to the hotel, which was amusing - missed out on the manager's receptions, which I overheard later were extremely heavy on the alcohol. Oh well.
The con itself was fun, for the usual reason - meeting up with folks more than anything else. Even if I did have a major attack of the anti-socials before I left the city (*waves to
xochiquetzl*). It was all just... Too! Many! People! ;)
It's always good to hang out with people in RL, though, even though some of these self-same peeps I see online quite regularly. Shame some of the panels I attended left much to be desired in terms of organisation - considering the size of the con...
As for the con itself, I can't believe the number of people lining up for James Marster's autograph at $40 a pop. I was trying to figure out who I'd queue for and the list was very short: Michael Shanks (been there, done that), David McCallum, Nick Lea. Erm, I think that's about it, though I dare say revelation will strike after I post this...
Oh, and I'm sure George Lucas never had that many Imperial stormtroopers in the original trilogy combined!
More to come on the con later, probably.
On another topic, saw 4 episodes of 'Peacemakers' while I was in the US. Liked the show, enjoyed it, but was left ultimately unsatisfied by the lack of character development - I want to know how these people tick, damnit! I want to see connection or conflict between them, and it gave me neither. *sigh*
