I'm watching the pilot of Studio 60 (don't ask, okay?) and it's like being in a time warp. Here I am watching two main characters who are clearly Dan Rydell and Casey McCall, but played by different actors (okay, one actor and Matthew Perry). It's really spooky. And I'll be surprised if it gets all the way through its promised 13-episode run.

In other news, having been watching things like Whistler, I have to wonder just how many Canadian or Canadian-located shows you would have to watch before you saw just about every Canadian actor at least once. It's like the Kevin Bacon game, but nothing like as challenging... no need for six degrees, more like two or three!

Is Whistler any good? And is available to dl?

Nick Lea is in it. Every week. Angsting. Do you need to know more? ;)

Studio 60 looks like it'll be fun, from the ads, but the telly folks' idea of 'coming soon' is not mine.

It's Sports Night does Saturday Night Live, basically, but I enjoyed it more the first time I saw those characters... also Josh Charles would have been better than Matthew Perry (who's really gone to seed, poor lad). It's Sorkin old home week, though, where you can play 'spot the people who've been in other series he did'.

No idea if/when we're going to get it over here, though.

I haven't seen either of those so it doesn't mean much to me, I'm afraid. I loved West Wing, though, which is why I'm interested in this new thing.

We're meant to be getting it here - there was an ad on during the last West Wing ep to say it was 'coming soon' so I'm guessing it's on More 4 or C4 or one of those other 4 channels.

Oh, Sports Night is just one of the best shows ever, but sadly has only been shown on abc1 over here so most Brits haven't been able to appreciate it. :( It's basically the same premise as Studio 60 (which is about people making a comedy/political satire show) but about sports presenters.

I couldn't get into West Wing, mostly because of the whole 'let's bomb Syria, yay!' thing in an early episode that didn't sit well with me and also I dislike being told that I must watch anything and I got that at least once. Didn't work for Firefly either... ;)

As for 'coming soon', the pilot airs in the US this coming weekend but I don't know if it's got a slot lined up, so there's no telling when it'll turn up here.

I tried Firefly but just couldn't get into it. West Wing was great for the first 3 years, then it was intermittent at best, and deadly dull at times. But I loved the characters and they were what kept me coming back, just the same as with any other programme.

I'm definitely not one to take much notice of the 'you must watch this' or 'that's crap so you shouldn't watch it' comments. At the moment I'm watching Eureka and really enjoying it, having ignored the 'it's crap' comments and bitching about it replacing SG-1 from a number of people. I tried BSG but hated it despite all the raving from so many.

If you're interested, I could do you bootlegs of my bootlegs of Sports Night, let me know.

Oh, and watch Entourage when it starts in a few weeks. Or not, your choice. ;)

Not asking but darn girl that was fast ;-)

I figured it was going to be Sports Night but a different venue *sniff* I so loved Dan and Casey, I can't see myself liking Perry the same way ;-)

Not use to keyboard at work yet *sigh*

I figured it's about 3 shows that make it internationally and one home grown one and that should about insure that you have seen every single Canadian actor out there ;-)

You know a show is popular or at least has made the somewhat big time if Gordon Pinsent or Colm Feore appears on it ;-)

Sports Night is one of my most favorite shows ever, so I have high hopes for Studio 60. (I also liked The West Wing, the first 4.5 years.)

If it manages to impress me as much as Sports Night then I'll accept that show wasn't a fluke... ;)

It looks like it might be okay, but I'm waiting to see if it airs over here, since I've got lots of stuff to dl already that I want to see more...

I really liked the pilot, but I have never seen Sports night (which was aired pre-internet downloads, so...)

I sorta like Mathew Perry. He's only good at certain things, but I find him cute and he plays well certain characters.

I could do you bootlegs of my bootlegs - if you like Studio 60 there's a better than even chance that you'll like Sports Night as well, so let me know... ;)

I'll do that, thanks. The pilot looked promising, but I'm not very patient with this kind of show, and if the storylines aren't good, I'll probably get tired.

It starts officially on the 18t, right?

18th September seems to be the date, yes.

For me it also depends on whether they go down the obvious plotlines with certain characters, considering they've already set up one of the leads as having had a relationship with the woman on the show... meh.
