I'm probably more entertained than I ought to be by the fact that in a certain fandom, someone just posted their well-received slash novel that was formerly a zine and there's a blatant and obvious typo right at the beginning of the first sentence.

Not that I'm claiming infallibility or anything, but I hope this isn't a sign of things to come...

Yes, I am prevaricating by reading bad (and not-so-bad) fic instead of doing what I should be doing, and your point is..?

E.T.A. well, it wasn't too bad, and though I can excuse the couple of misspellings of Vin's name because they wouldn't get picked up by a spellchecker, the misspelling of Ezra surely would have. Oh, and this was a classic case of skimming past the sex scenes in search of plot. Ah well.

Oh, has the zine gotten some good reviews? I mean, outside of the E/V conclave that is. After all, all that's required for a zine/story to be considered good by some there is that... it's Ezra/Vin. ; )

I dunno if I'll ever get around to reading it. I did have a copy of the zine, but eventually sold it unread. The subject matter put me off, and my tolerance for Vin these days is nil. Hmm, not too bad isn't a ringing endorsement, but maybe... When I can tolerate Vin again. ::g::

I wouldn't bother. It was helped immensely by the novelty of reading something in that fandom that wasn't just a short PWP and in hindsight there are a number of things about it that wouldn't make me re-read it:

It is a bit St-Vinny-Sue and Emo!Ezra

The writer is (to my mind) a bit too gleeful when describing the rather nasty things done to Ezra in the past, which only have repercussions when needed for the plot but otherwise don't bother him

Ezra keeps on getting shot - apparently he is a bullet magnet when everyone else is invulnerable

There's some real whiplash characterisation moments for the others, Nathan in particular

Ezra is just... hmm, I was going to say wimpy, and at times I think that's exactly what he is

It feels like some of the sex scenes were put in to pad it up to get to novel length, rather than to progress the plot

Yes, truly, the realm of Ezslash is lacking in plotty fare overall, and for my fave pairing... I believe I can count on the fingers of one hand how many there are for E/B. Very disappointing, as PWPs do nothing for me.

Ye gads, St. Vinny!Sue I despise! Canon Vin has always been my least favorite of the Seven and will never be otherwise, but at least there were a few interesting things about him, i.e. his willingness to shoot someone in the back, unlike Chris, the dichotomy of having been a buffalo hunter against his respect for Native American ways, the less than noble profession of bounty hunting... But do we see any of that explored in Ezslash? No. We just get a Vin who's been sanitized to pure whitebread blandness. Why do Vin lovers like that??

I haven't read any C/V for years, but when I did, there they tended to infantilize Vin. Not sure which is worse. Anyway, think I'll take a pass on this E/V.
