No news is good news!

So, they said "If we decide not to offer you the job, we'll let you know straight away, so if you don't hear anything that means we're taking up references."
Now, considering we went from closing date to interview in about 10 days, is it unreasonable of me to assume that not having heard anything so far (4 days and counting) is good?
I really hope so, after what happened this week. One of my colleagues, conscientious but not very organised, had a complaint made against him. The complaint was then investigated by someone who had clearly already made up their mind what had happened - the resulting decision was appalling in its partisanship and outright libel of my colleague and his capability to do the job.
Though I've always been a believer in 'same shit, different place', I don't want to work for these people any more.
