Prompted by the ludicrous trailer I saw this morning, all guns and girls and boats and then suddenly the name of the movie comes up... Miami Vice!!!!! *falls over laughing*
There was such cognitive dissonance with this trailer, it was all fast editing and girls and guns and we're so hardcore and then the movie name comes up and my brain went 'wha...?????'.
I'm not sure it will bear too much resemblance to the original show bar the names, so if that's important to you it may not live up (down?) to what you want...
I'm primarily looking forward to the movie because I'm a Michael Mann fangirl. Since he's still directing and I think he creates fantastic looking films whatever he does, I'm sure to enjoy it on purely visual terms.
I'm quite looking forward to the Miami Vice film. I've been pleasently surprised by some of the old TV series --> film adaptations. Charlie's Angels and Starsky and Hutch were both really fun. Plus, Michael Mann is writing and directing, and I've enjoyed his stuff in the past. At the very least, he knows how to direct a decent shootout and car chase.
I really liked the Starsky and Hutch remake, because it was clear it was done with a lot of affection for the original, though I admit that was also helped by the fact I really like Owen Wilson. ;)
I think what it is with this particular film is that there's such a dissonance between 'it's a Michael Mann film' and 'it's Miami Vice', based on my memories of the god-awful clothes of the original, which even now make me shudder to think of them...
Didn't Michael Mann have something to do with the original Miami Vice?
I clicked "Colin who?" because I just can't seem to remember who he is from film to film. Then again, I've not been watching a lot of movies lately, I've been catching up with old TV shows on DVD.
But...er...Ican'tbelieveI'madmittingthisbut...I actually kind of liked the clothes in the original. So there.
According to IMDb, he was an executive producer on the original, though I'm still not sure how much resemblance there's going to be between that and the new movie.
I hated the Starsky & Hutch movie, because I thought it trashed the original. There were a few amusing moments, but I really hated what it did to the original. I was a fan of the show way back in the 70s, though. The characters in the movie were *nothing* like the show and I dislike the idea of making silly parody movies about serious old shows. (OTOH, when I watch S&H (the original show) on DVD now, it quite often makes me laugh...and not at the funny parts, either. *g*)
I don't remember the awful clothes of the original. I can remember thinking they looked cool. *g* I know nothing about the MV movie, though. I had no clue who was in it, but I only watched the show for maybe 1 1/2 seasons. Is the movie supposed to be a parody or will it be gritty and dark?
The movie trailer makes it look like a run-of-the-mill action movie, with no clear ties to the original series, which was why I was so stunned when the title came up...
Weird. Well, maybe it is just a regular action movie. I'd really rather that, I think, though I doubt I'd bother to see it either way unless it finds its way in my house somehow.
(Oh, and I meant that I thought the MV clothes from the original show were cool--uh, back then, that is. *g* I don't exactly have good taste in clothes now either, though.)
I've only ever seen him in that movie where he played Alexander the Great or something like that. I thought he was good in it, and I didn't even recognize him or figure out who he was until about 3/4 of the way through the movie. *g* I liked the other guy, though--the one who was on My So-Called Life. heh
Hee! In which movie did he have bleached hair? The Alexander movie or Miami Vice? *g* ::is confused:: I only vaguely remember the Alexander movie, so it's possible that I'm horribly confused about everything. (I didn't see it in a theater either. I don't like the theater at the best of times. I think I rented this one with my daughter or she had it somehow.)
What exactly is this guy famous for? He's not that good looking. He can't act. Even his sex video is boring as hell. I have no use for the Colin Farrell. Can he please just go away now?
P.S. The Miami Vice movie looks like deep fried ass. If anyone is wanting to see a TV show remade into a movie, I would recommend Strangers With Candy. At least HoYay is acknowledged in that movie. In fact it is celebrated.
Ha! I can't help it though. When I find out a "celebrity" has a sex tape on the internets my curiosity forces me to track it down. I can't help it. Invariably, I wish I hadn't bothered, because I usually need a brain bleaching and/or an eye scrubbing.
Curses be to my damn curiosity which foils me every time.

Well, that's just my opinion. YMMV.
