I have to say, I highly recommend going to the cinema on a Sunday morning (unless, of course, you spend your Sunday mornings in other ways), since it seems to be as close to having a personal cinema as most of us are ever going to get. I can't recall the last Sunday morning screening I've been to where there were more than about five people - today's total was three, including me.

So, Fearless. If it's true, as it seems to be, that this movie is likely to be Jet Li's last old school movie, then what a movie to go out with. I can't wait to get the dvd. :)

Meanwhile, I feel I must mention a couple of the trailers they showed this morning - alas, nothing for the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which was disappointing - but what we did get raised two distinct muffled laughs from me in the following areas:

  • Guys, if you're going to get Colin Farrell all rumpled and unshaven and make a movie about cops in Miami, you really might want to reconsider actually calling it Miami Vice because that takes the edge off the whole 'we are hardcore' thing more than a little.

  • Snakes on a Plane - boy, that movie looks bad enough to be shown on the Sci Fi Channel on a regular basis.

One of my best theater trips was a few months after Phantom Menace came out.

I got permission to take my kids to an open captioned performance for a field trip. It was just me, my aide/interpreter and my three students.

And on work time. It was awesome. :)

Wish they had Sunday morning showings here :-(

The best we get is to wait a few months and go to the second run theatres.

And Colin Farrell in anything tends to remove the hardcore out of anything ;-)

For some reason, the multi-screen cinemas here just run the non-adult rated films every day as many times as they can cram them in starting from 11am, whether anyone is watching them or not. They seem to start at 5 minute intervals, which I guess is for the benefit of the projectionist... ;)

And Colin Farrell, who told him he could act? Because, seriously, he's more wooden than Pinocchio and much less attractive to boot.

They have "matinees" here that start in the afternoon and means that every kid in a 10 mile radius is there *shudders* Plus it's not that much cheaper than at night and frankly I might as well by the movie when it comes out it's cheaper ;-)

Is acting what Colin Farrell does? I thought he just kind of stood around and grimaced a lot and tried to be funny... And yeah not exactly an attractive fellow which isn't a problem if he had some sort of charisma or charm or something but really wooden is the nicest thing that could be said about his "acting style" ;-)

We get two showings before school's out - one late morning and one early afternoon, while tickets before 6pm are about £1.50 cheaper. We also have cheap Tuesday, which has the lower ticket price all day, regardless of the time.

But regardless of this I don't get to the cinema all that often, since dvd rental still works out much cheaper and there's now so little lag between big screen release and dvd release, not to mention the lack of embarrassment factor for seeing all kinds of crap in the privacy of my own home! ;)
