Before I disappear into my Wild Wild West and Maid Marian and her Merry Men dvds (because guess what else turned up this morning?), I thought I'd follow the herd... it's everywhere, so you know the drill:
1. Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general. Ask anything...I'm really not bothered.
2. ONE QUESTION.-- Nah, you can ask more than one, but I might or might not answer it.And also not too many sub-parts, you devious people...
3. That's it. It can be as normal or odd as you like.
In other news, it's wildlife spotting time again. I know, last time around it was me running over stuff, but this time I've been better. ;)
Yesterday morning, I was driving over the bridge and saw the same thing twice - initially I thought the first one I saw was a small deer, but then I realised it was actually a brown hare. And then there was another one, in the next field along. Coolness.
Not so cool was the variety of roadkill on the way to and from work, which usually tends to include the following in some combination or other: badger, fox, rabbit, squirrel, pheasant, pigeon, crow. This morning's also included something more unusual, an all black ferret-like creature which my online investigation just now tells me is a mink. So that's probably quite positive for the local wildlife where it got squished, if not for the mink...

Date: 2006-06-16 06:15 pm (UTC)Where, for example, Wild Wild West is concerned, the only thing would be to rewrite the disappearance of Artemus Gordon to Washington in season 4, except that was due to real life events (Ross Martin's heart attack) and that would also remove the wonderful scene when he comes back and Jim is all pleased to see him. So tinkering with canon isn't quite so easy.
Where Stargate SG-1 is concerned, it's actually hard to know where to stop. ;) An obvious candidate would be the entire episode of 'Meridian', or at least the method of death that TIIC chose for Daniel. However the rot sets in well before that with the frequent use of the Doe Eyes of Doom so I think my candidate for canon rewrite would be that I'd like Sam Carter to have a spine and not daddy issues. I'd love to excise all the hideousness that the will they-won't they teasing meant and also the dodgy behaviour that it both induced and excused. Given that, I could forgive pretty much anything else!

Date: 2006-06-17 10:17 am (UTC)In my other fandoms, it would probably be a toss-up between 'Journeys End' (a lengthy Stargate SG-1 story set in 1945, because of the work that went into it over the approximately 2 years it took to write) and 'On Top' (also Stargate SG-1 but a different pairing and written in second person, which is fiendishly hard to do well, so I was pleased with the end result).
Mostly my response tends towards relief that the story is finished and I'd say I'm happy with the vast majority of them, though in hindsight I can still see their flaws...

Date: 2006-06-21 07:06 am (UTC)As for other ideas, I have to say of all the stuff I've written I tend to find good E/N ideas hardest of all to come up with. The way the characters are with one another (for me) precludes the casual storyline you can get away with where other pairings are concerned - for example, having written an 'Ezra and Chris get drunk and have sex' story, I find it much harder to see how that would work for Ezra and Nathan without much more angsting involved. I get the feeling Nathan is probably a bit of a nasty drunk, somehow, even more so than Chris canonically is...
I still have a couple of half-baked E/N ideas knocking around, but I've always got ideas for a bunch of stuff and many of them are heading towards being school age now. ;)

Date: 2006-06-21 06:53 pm (UTC)I have a E/N story like that, too. I thought I had pretty much completed it, but now I realize that it needs major re-writes and I just can't work up the initiative to do so. I already put too much work into it as it is. Damn!
I agree that Ezra/Nathan are a lot more angst-y. Perhaps that's why I like that pairing. They're just so interesting together. Your comment about Nathan being a nasty drunk rings true for me. That could make a good scene in a story. No? ;-)

Ah well, if you ever do write more I will be very happy to read it.

Date: 2006-06-24 11:07 am (UTC)I know that they were certainly the first pairing that sparked for me, watching 'Working Girls' when Nathan tears a strip off Ezra and he pretends (badly) not to be bothered by it. But then there's angst and there's OMG ANGST!!!!!1111!!!! ;)

That has potential for being too much in the OMG ANGST!!!!!1111!!!! category, I think. I don't get where people writing Ezra as a doormat come to the character from bearing on mind what we see onscreen. I don't think he'd take crap from Nathan and then just stick around to take some more...
Ah well, if you ever do write more I will be very happy to read it.
Yep, that's about the size of the audience for E/N alright... ;)

Date: 2006-06-26 04:39 pm (UTC)Oh I agree. I definitely agree. I don't think that Ezra has "the slap me again I love it" complex. But I still think it would be interesting to see Nathan as a mean drunk in fanfiction. It would amuse me.

Heh. Surely not? I recently posted an E/N story and got a whole two comments. So there are others. Maybe not legions, but a few. We happy few. ;-P

As I see it, Ezra's reaction to Mean!Nathan would be either a) shoot him, b) leave town, or c) shoot him and leave town. Which kind of makes the whole angsty relationship a bit tricky!

Or d)Ezra tells Nathan off, dumps him and goes off with Buck to live slashily ever after. ;-)
