I've had my driving licence since 1989 and in all that time I can only recall hitting something animate once before. I have no idea if there's something in the water but it really hasn't been my week where suicidal wildlife is concerned.

Earlier in the week it was the small brown bird sitting in the road which decided it could fly across in front of me and make it to the other side. Unfortunately small brown birds really are not that good at judging the speed of oncoming vehicles. Then, on the motorway heading home I had some other small bird literally splat on my windscreen after bouncing off the van in front of me. Yeuch. And this morning it was time to compare the speed of a rabbit emerging from the undergrowth to a car moving at 60mph. You don't need to be Charlie Epps to figure out the end result of that calculation.

Meanwhile, in other non-roadkill news, I've been amused this week by an apparent outbreak of stupidity at work. Well, perhaps it's been there all the time and I've just not noticed it quite as much... I work in a consultative role, which means that I don't make decisions (that's for the worker in question and their manager) but that I do raise issues which will need to be addressed and also get to play devil's advocate a bit.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to find that the most resistance I've had to a 'why did you do this in this particular way?' question to date, which happened this week, was from a man. Please don't try and persuade me that what you did isn't a problem when basically all I'm saying to you is that you will probably need to justify why you did it. I have no way of telling if people are thinking 'boy, [Grac] talks a load of crap' or if they take into account what I suggest a lot of the time but this is literally the first time in 10 months anyone has tried to essentially tell me that they know better than I do. Dearie, I was employed because I know more than you, which includes knowing the difference between 'were' and 'where', if your draft is anything to go by. STFU, okay? ;)

And finally, also in non-roadkill news (I'm very glad to say), I drive along by the canal on the way to and from work and while I've always seen ducks there I have never seen ducklings. Last night the ducklings were finally out - 7 or 8 of them! :)

Those 7 Ducklings? They are to be enjoyed, not considered a goal.

Just kidding.

Oh, you're so funny!

Besides, as long as they keep to the canal they ought to be safe... ;)

Heh heh heh....

At the NICU where I work, they had a morale display. We were encouraged to suggest ways to make the work place "happy and more playful."

My entry: "One word--Ferrets." I have to admit I was thinking of your brood at the time.

You know, I can't quite see any hospital administrator going for that... ;)
