If there's one thing that bugs me about a wide variety of satellite channels, it's that they seem to run the same ads for their own shows over and over and over and over again. And while I could happily watch Living TV's Alan/Denny Boston Legal ad repeatedly, I surely can't be the only one who wants to kick Ricky Gervais in his smug, smirking, self-congratulatory face?

This isn't part of the supposed Ricky Gervais backlash, btw, which I saw touted somewhere as part of the whole 'Brits don't like successful people' idea - I never liked the guy or thought he was funny... ;)

I'm so glad to hear this. Considering the kind of press those two shows get, I just assumed the infamous 'British' sense of humour had somehow moved on and left me behind. I cannot stand Ricky Gervais, and the extent is so great that I've given up on watching Jonathan Ross because he has Gervais on his show so much and I don't want to be horribly surprised by that man's presence. Little Britain? No thanks. Blech.

I like my humour to be intelligent, and neither of those fit the bill. Very, very pleased to know I'm not alone.

I have to say that the last things that could be described as out and out comedy that I made an effort to watch was Spaced, and the second (and final) season of that aired in 2001.

I can't remember what I've watched in recent years that could be classed as comedy. I watched Red Dwarf way back when (not later series of it), and Blackadder. Definitely Yes Minister / Yes Prime Minister. But since then? Nothing's coming to mind.
