And in other news, can I just say how utterly idiotic this thing is that many of the US tv channels do where they take a show off mid-run for up to a month! It would never happen over here! Stupid tv people... *mutters*

BUT OMGWTF SWEEPS!!!!111!11!!!!1! MUST HAVE NEW EPS DURING SWEEPS!!!!!!11!!!1!!

Sweeps is some TV industry thing related to advertising that I don't really understand and therefore am doing a crappy job explaining, but they try to put all the lure in the viewers shows during sweeps. SG-1 is bringing back a popular guest character for sweeps, for example.

So, the logic is we'll make it so the viewers don't know when the new episodes are on because we're buggering them about but we'll tell the ad folks that it's okay anyway? Idiotic.

Oh I know! (channelling Sybil Fawlty there!) I'm sick of it, I can't work out what's on when, there's a new Supernatural this week and then nothing for something like 5 weeks! How do they expect people to stay invested in a show when they do this?

I think we only did it once over here with ER and they had so many complaints that they took it off air until there were enough eps to finish up with every week.

Shouldn't be allowed. But then neither should Friends, Everyone Loves Raymond, Ally McBeal and various reality shows and my abhorrence doesn't seem to have ever had an effect on them...

Lemming. Lemming. Totally lemming here.

I agree with you so much. Seriously. It's sad really.

Stupid tv people, don't they realise they're making the shows for us and not the ad people?

I don't think the fundamentalists would like it much, but at least certain actors would always be guaranteed a role as long as they continued to be willing to take their clothes off for completely non-gratuitous reasons due to their sheer charisma and acting ability. ;)
