My copy of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has arrived! See you all in a few days... ;)

Update at 12.30am: Or in about 13 hours, apparently.

Well, this book is *definitely* an improvement on Goblet of Fire - much better pacing and a more coherent plot, whereas that one I felt could have benefitted from some stringent editing.

And can we say 'Snape angst'? Huh, can we? :) Poor Snapey-poos, that James Potter turned out to be just as arrogant as he'd been telling Harry all along.

As for the character death, I was surprised at who it turned out to be (especially as JKR yanks our chains over 3 or 4 other possible candidates for the honour as the book proceeds). Bye Sirius, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

I would have liked more Lupin, though, that was a little anti-climactic. But the story itself was dark and angsty and definitely fit with the concept of Harry growing up and coming to more of an understanding that the world's not just black and white like he'd previously supposed.

All in all, well worth the wait and the hype and chasing after the postman this morning.
