And while we're talking movies, my choices are relatively limited by the fact there's a bunch of male actors I either cannot stand or have little tolerance for, so have to be persuaded something they're in is worth watching... I wonder how many people reading this share my views? ;)

[Poll #652727]

E.T.A. Candidates to add to the shitlist so far: Will Farrell, Colin Farrell, Adam Sandler (x3 votes), Chris Farley, David Spade, Rob Schneider, Jimmy Fallon, Owen Wilson (x2 votes), Kevin Bacon, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, John Travolta (x5 votes), Michael Douglas (x2 votes), Orlando Bloom (x4 votes), Jeff Goldblum (at least that's who I assume [livejournal.com profile] sg1scribe meant!), Tom Hanks (x4 votes), Russell Crowe (x3 votes), Mike Myers (x2 votes), Steven Seagal (x2 votes), Arnold Schwarzennegger (x2 votes), Billy Bob Thornton, Ben Stiller (x2 votes), Val Kilmer, Heath Ledger (x2 votes), Edward Norton, Eric Bana, Matthew McConnachie (sp?), Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhall and Benjamin Bratt. And on the distaff side, Julia Roberts (x2 votes iirc), Kirsten Dunst, Andie McDowell, Jennifer Lopez and a lengthy selection from [livejournal.com profile] cara_chapel here.

I certainly should have included both Travolta and Douglas in my original list... ;)

All actor dislike goes out the window if the promo says, "Based on a story by Philip K. Dick," however. ;)

Alas, the appearance of Tom Cruise etc. strikes all that out, no matter how much I love Philip K. Dick, particularly since they rarely do his stuff well...

Agreed, I sort of had to see Minority Report but I SO wished that someone else than Cruise could've played...

I don't think a single tick box sufficiently describes my antipathy to films starring Kevin Costner or Mel Gibson.

I know that feeling, it's called 'how I get when I see those War of the Worlds ads on tv'. ;)

I keep thinking of people to add to my list of people you forgot. And I keep wanting to list women, too. ;-)

Ditto. The name "Julia Roberts" is sure to leave me running and screaming faster than any other, male OR female.

Me too. Ugh!

I liked all of your additions, btw, and I wish I'd thought of them first!

If we're opening the list to women can I say that Kirsten Dunst is pretty guaranteed to have be heading into the movie screen next door.

There's a lot of women I don't particularly like but I couldn't think of any that provoke the pure visceral reaction I get to some of these guys...

I would have to say that I really avoid or am completely disinterested in films or TV shows or albums featuring Callista Flockhart, Fran Drescher, Julia Roberts, Jeri Ryan, Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton, Jennifer Lopez, Angela Lansbury, Susan Lucci, Britney Spears, Dolly Parton, Annie Potts, Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder, Jessica Simpson, Lindsey Lohan, Molly Ringwald, Liv Tyler, and I'm probably forgetting half a dozen more. ;-)

I actually don't really have such an antipathy to any woman that I feel towards the likes of Tom Cruise...

One woman does this to me: Andie McDowell.
I HATE watching her.

Kevin Bacon, man! How can you forget Kevin Bacon?

Although I should be dismayed that I really did enjoy Where The Truth Lies and that I watch Tremors each time it's on.

God, I hate John Travolta and Tom Cruise...Leonardo DiCaprio is just pathetic and Ben Affleck is a lousy actor.
Hmm, how come I like Matt Damon better than Ben Affleck??

Also add to the list anyone who appears in films that are meant to be 'funny' but are just schoolboy humour. And actors who can't act.

I found Tom Cruise's huge percentage very interesting and deserved. I bet that's the only thing I've ever found huge about Tom Cruise or, indeed, the only thing that will ever be found huge about him. ;-)

Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey are equally loathe-worthy, and all will send me screaming from the room.

there's so many

Nicholas Cage should be right up there.

As for Women...
Julia Roberts needs to die. As do Gwyneth Paltrow, Lindsey Lohan, JEnnifer Love Hewitt and Liv Tyler.

Maybe my lack of hatred for as widespread a bunch on the distaff side is due to the fact that so many Hollywood actresses look alike (I guess the plastic surgeons all work from the same book) that I struggle to distinguish them from one another... ;)

And I've actually liked Nicolas Cage in a few things, so I'm afraid I don't have the visceral reaction to him that that putz Cruise et al generate in me.

Heh, I put down Travolta before I even saw your ETA comments. I'd also have to agree with Jim Carey, Colin Farrell, Sandler and Farrell. Even if the film otherwise looks interesting. I wonder if it's just us fans that feel that way, or rather there's a large segment of audiences at large that feel this way? I think Cruise's behavior has empowered those of us that dislike him to be vocalize it for a change.

I disliked Tom Cruise long before he made an utter tit of himself in public in recent months.

Seeing the widespread spleen being vented here is actually making me feel quite restrained, as there's a couple of people on the ETA list I would actually selectively choose to see in a movie. ;)

Maybe most people just don't really care, I have no idea. Because otherwise why would these objects of our scorn apparently be so successful and such a box office draw? I mean, I know lots of squealing adolescent girls (and not a few boys, I dare say, if not quite so openly) adore Orlando Bloom at the moment but how long will that last?
