Gakked from somewhere or other...

Pick 20 movies you love. Pick a quote from each. Make people guess.

9. "Delia, you are a flake. You have always been a flake. If you insist on frightening people, do it with your sculpture." Beetlejuice, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] xochiquetzl

10. "My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives."

11. "When a man's partner is killed, he's supposed to do something about it. It doesn't make any difference what you thought of him. He was your partner and you're supposed to do something about it." The Maltese Falcon, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] d_and_cats

16. "An enlightened man would offer a weary traveler a bed for the night, and invite him to share a civilized conversation over a bowl of Cocoa Puffs."

17. "Say Lou, didya hear the one about the guy who couldn't afford personalized plate so he went and changed his name to J3L2404?"

18. "You're acting like a pack of rabid dogs. And that, gentlemen, simply will not do."

20. "Memory can change the shape of a room; it can change the color of a car. And memories can be distorted. They're just an interpretation, they're not a record, and they're irrelevant if you have the facts." Memento, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] lovellama

This was harder than I expected when I realised how many of my favourite movies don't have English as a first language. ;)

I'm so bad at these - at least a half-dozen are achingly familiar, but I can't hum it along to figure out the next line since it's not Name That Tune. :-P But I do know that #19 is Master and Commander.

No, humming really isn't going to help here. ;)

And yes, it is indeed Master and Commander, which is a movie decidedly short on quotable quotes, alas...

That was a good movie. I should try to hunt it down on DVD.

5 is Withnail and I.

And I believe 15 is The Big Sleep. It's definitely Humphrey Bogart.

I was wondering when the two people I know have a copy of W&I would get here. ;)

And yes, the other one is The Big Sleep.

I think I've got a copy of W&I permanently implanted in my brain. (This is what happens when you and all of your roomies in uni become simultaneously obsessed with the flick and quote it at each other constantly.)

I wouldn't like to think how many times I've seen that movie. I reckon I must watch it at least 3 or 4 times a year, so I would expect if you had a top 10 of most-watched movies then W&I would probably be at the top of my list (along with a few others quoted here).

I'm always a bit surprised when I discover people who haven't seen it (at least if they're this side of the pond). ;)

It's a big cult movie in Canada as well, at least amongst people in my age group. Not quite so much in the States, though. (I forced more than one of my Wisconsin classmates to sit through it in my grad school days.)

I have no idea how many times I've seen it, but it's up there. (Lawrence of Arabia takes the top spot for me, but I'd guess that Withnail is number 2.)

Hedly Lamar - Blazing Saddles

Such a very silly movie. And I think I told you, there was a slash vid for it last MW? ;)

Way too late...

...but browsing about my folist I had to stop on this, and 10 is, of course, Hedley LaMarr from Blazing Saddles. It's fairly grim that that and Galaxy Quest were the only ones I knew. :)

It is indeed! And maybe you just don't have the same obsessive love of Coen Brothers and John Cusack that grips me far too often? ;)

At least I've heard of the other films ... I'm pretty sad in terms of cultural knowledge, I'm afraid. :)
