...that'd be the man who's coming to install Sky, of course! :)

Downside: bookcases. Lots of bookcases. Cable to be run behind bookcases, so guess what I'll be doing this weekend? Now I need to persuade him to leave me about 50 feet of cable because I'm quite capable of shifting furniture and tacking stuff to skirting boards myself, thankee.

Upside: Sentinel starts next week. Season 7 in September. Various Nero Wolfe movies that may well save me money I would otherwise spend on having the US season 1 dvds shipped over here via kind Canadian peeps.

*smooches Josee and hopes she's feeling better*

The sun is out, Daniel is back, all's well with the world! :)

Update:

We have Sky. We have lots of cable. We have two Nero Wolfe movies this month, so doubtless the dvds are still necessary. Ah well, there are worse things in the world than a desire for dvds...

Bean-worshipper

::giggle:: That would be appreciater, not worshipper...
oh Illya Worshipper...
;)

I do rather like Tim Hutton in this... I liked his dad in Ellery Queen better, but he's OK.

And what's wrong with worshipping Illya? ;)

Well the Blond's head is swelled already... Imagine what he'd be like with worshippers...
;P

However I know you'd be beating NS out of the way with a big stick to be lead worshipper!

Oh! Would this be the Nero Wolfe that was shown on A&E here in the US, the one with Timothy Hutton? It's on DVD? I've been lookin', but not findin'...

Yes, it certainly is! :)

I've been a fan of the books for years, and Archie isn't quite as I imagined him (and certainly Fritz definitely isn't) and wanted to see these. Am trying desperately to beat back a plot bunny, considering that there are people writing Wolfe fic who really have the Archie voice down pat.

Anyhoo, I just watched the first one - Over My Dead Body, the one where Wolfe's daughter is working as a fencing instructor - and thought it was great. The chemistry between Wolfe and Archie really zings, just like the books.

The page for the dvds is linked to my original post, and I'm going to have to buy them now...

Oh, coolness! Thanks for the heads-up. I was able to get a set at a decent Buy It Now price on eBay. :-)

I loved the show and am disappointed it looks like there's not going to be another season. Ah, well... DVDs. :g: In addition to being good mysteries - and I'm a mystery junkie - this show has a lot of pizazz and style, lotta humor. Have not read any of the Rex Stout's yet, though I intend to, just the Robert Goldsborough line. Haven't delved into the fanfic, but I can definitely see where people are getting it. And Archie's voice would be fun, I think. :g:

They did a significant chunk of the opus, considering the guy wrote a scary number of novels and short stories - I think I have the entire set bar about 4 or 5 now and it's taken me years to get hold of them. Some of the stories haven't aged well, but overall I find them entertaining...

There's some excellent fic, one writer in particular makes Wolfe/Archie slash believable (helped by the great chemistry between the two characters) - the main archive is AWOL at the moment, but if you're interested I can send you some files.

Hopefully A&E are going to release the entire run on dvd. It's just disappointing they didn't do all that well in the ratings - too much thought needed, I guess? *sigh*

It might have helped if they had given it a decent time and stuck to it. It was never on when I looked for it...

I believe I shall have to do some scrounging in my local used bookstore at the earliest available opportunity. :g:

That would be great, thanks! I can believe the pairing. There's definite slashy subtext in the show - Nero is very possessive of Archive, for instance. - and I've been told the books have it too.

I hope we'll see more on DVD. I wonder if the cost of making the show tipped the balance. They didn't have a lot of big name stars, but the production values were very high. It couldn't have been a cheap show to make.
