The [livejournal.com profile] muncle Secret Agent Santa story is done (and there was much rejoicing by me!), though I'm not sure it's quite what was asked for. What do you do when you're constitutionally incapable of acceding to some of the requests that are made of you? I hope they won't be too disappointed - who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised at the response?

If not, then I guess finding a lump of coal in your stocking is traditional! ;)

All we can ever do with these things is our best. And if we truly can't write something for whatever reason, then trying to make ourselves write it will only end up with bad results all round.

Anyway, I am sure that the recipient would not be discourteous enough to say anything even if she/he didn't like it. These things are gifts, we say thank you for gifts whatever, it's just good manners. I'm sure your recipient will be delighted having a story from you whatever and if you've done two of the three, well.... that's fair enough IMHO.

I'm remembering now why I don't often volunteer for these kind of things - the whole challenge aspect doesn't always work well for me and I'm anxious enough about fic that's generated by what I like (being my own worst critic and all...), let alone what other people might want to read about.

I attempted to answer their request, and you can't say any fairer than that, can you?

Indeed you can't. I think most writers find writing a gift story harder than anything else, because you are trying to please a specific person.
