graculus: (It's all Cyc's fault)

Finally saw Batman Begins yesterday, now it's out on dvd. You know, it says something about a movie that one of the villains (Cillian Murphy) was both prettier and a damn sight better at acting than the leading lady (Katie Holmes), who was so wooden she should be modelling clothes in a department store window somewhere.

Also, who told Christian Bale his Batman voice was scary? He sounds like he's still stuck in the well... And speaking of voices, it would have been so much better if Michael Caine could have picked one accent and stuck with it throughout the movie, rather than changing his mind every couple of scenes.

Batman Begins - boring. I really don't get why so many critics and others got so excited about this film. I had a sinking feeling in the cinema when I realised that, despite having been watching for what seemed like an eternity, the major storyline still had to be dealt with. The only redeeming feature was Cillian Murphy, who is pretty enough for me to be waiting for a chance to rent Red Eye. Watching Katie Holmes blathering on about being the assistant to the DA or whatever title her character had was funny, but not in a good way. Honestly my cat can be more convincing.

I didn't get the feeling it dragged that much, but then I'm a martial arts movie fan and don't necessarily need too much plot to be engaged if there are people throwing each other around on the screen...

And I think the reason Katie Holmes had to keep banging on about what she did in every scene was because she clearly had so little screen presence that otherwise everyone would be wondering just why she was there. So they had to justify it with a lame almost-reason that in the end didn't come to anything because nobody got prosecuted for anything anyway...
