Why oh why oh why if you have small children would you voluntarily take them shopping with you unless you need them there to try stuff on? I mean, please, it's just cruel for everyone concerned, including them and innocent bystanders like me.

However, these small annoyances did not prevent me giving my credit cards a serious work-out today... I was very pleased to be able to buy another suit for substantially less than I bought the last one for, as well as the various household items I needed/wanted.

But for some reason, every time I buy picture frames something goes wrong with them - this time I managed to crack the glass. I remember now why I like the Ikea wooden frames with the plastic in them instead. ;)

Off work this week, in case you hadn't realised... otherwise I wouldn't be going shopping, that's for sure!

Because child care is a joke. If you can get child care - and it's not that easy - it's also not cheap and often not convenient.

I frequently have to take Nibble with me because either it's a weekend - and Fuckwit supposedly sees him for 7 hours on a Sunday but in that time I've also got to wash and do the housework (the first weekend he had him overnight was Connotations, at my nagging, and he'd moved out two and a half years before that) - or I have to take time off work.

And given that I'm trying to work up lots of flexi time so that I can take most of the school holidays off with him - which works out at about 43 - 45 hours a week when I'm at work - taking even a day off can seriously dent that. Resulting in having to find yet more child care during the holidays.

And when he was little, I had even less choice. He was in nursery the 3 days a week I was at work, and they could not or would not take him any extra time. Which meant that if I did have to go in on the days I didn't work - not that infrequent - Fuckwit had to take the time off.

So I would say that parents take their children with them shopping because they have no other options, except buying online, which isn't always possible or convenient.

Believe me, dragging him around the shops was no fun for me, which is why I did it as little as possible. Meaning I spent most of my time with him either at home or taking him to child friendly places, and not getting a chance to shop.
