Received information today in the post about a one-day conference in London which I really could prove was work-related if it wasn't for the fact that I'm already doing training (as in me training other people...) that covers more than half of what's being discussed. Oh, and it's £300 + VAT.

£300 plus VAT is pretty reasonable, isn't it? We charge more than that for a whole day seminar, and we're at the cheaper end of the market.

I think it's the fact that I already know sufficient to run about 80% of the conference at least, more than the price... ;)

Of course, where the money is concerned I have no frame of reference but think I stand a much better chance of persuading my boss to cough up that kind of dough for something that's not already stuff I patently know like the back of my hand...

Handouts. That's what your £300 pays for, you know. PowerPoint slides printed out into handouts. *g*

I know there are some, mostly industry type seminars rather than professional training things, that cost bucketloads of cash. I imagine it would be easier either way to get the money for something you wouldn't just sit through thinking how much better you could've done it yourself.
