fannish5: Name 5 fan fiction writers for whom you would sample any fandom because they wrote it.
I'm torn on this one and here's why...
There are writers whose work I admire so much that if I had an interest in another fandom they wrote in, I would check their fic out. However, nothing will impel me to read stuff for a fandom I either actively dislike or just plain have no interest in. Doesn't matter how well-written it is, that's just too big a hurdle to overcome. So, for example, as much as I adore
przed's UNCLE and WWW fic, I can't imagine any circumstances where I'd be reading her Professionals fic because my admiration for her work does not overcome my lack of interest in the fandom in question.
There are other writers whose work I've read in more than one fandom I like where the magic just doesn't carry across. Technically they may be excellent, but I just don't see the characters the way they see them and therefore they leave me cold. So, the idea of blindly following writers from one fandom into another just because they're who they are doesn't really work for me...
However, there's been one notable exception to that, which is how I got into Wild Wild West in the first place - knowing nothing about the fandom in question (except that it had been described as being like UNCLE on horseback) I bought a couple of the excellent Gentlemen Never Tell zines solely because of who was writing in them. In this case, a good number of my favourite UNCLE authors. Perhaps it was easier because I didn't know the show at all, so I had no opinion about it? That would make my response closer to that of picking up a new book by a favourite profic author, rather than walking into a universe I already knew and had a point of view about?
