From [livejournal.com profile] fannish5:

Your five favorite pieces of fannish memorabilia (in no particular order)

1. My Leah Rosenthal original cartoon of Daniel Jackson in pink bunny pyjamas looking rather cross. ;)

2. My Obi-Wan and Darth Maul beanies.

3. My original 1960's Illya Kuryakin action figure.

4. My complete set of Wild Wild West (the tv series, not the movie!) trading cards, including all the autograph cards and the extra set with the James West costume card. I like to imagine my small piece of material was from somewhere over that magnificent arse of his. ;)

5. My complete set of the US and UK Man from UNCLE paperbacks (including the well-thumbed copy of The Assassination Affair where both Napoleon and Illya get whumped within an inch of their lives!).

I'm not a great memorabilia collector really, but I like what I like. And yes, I am a completist. ;)

Oh wow, official MUNCLE fan fic! So, when you say whumped, what kind of whumped would that be?

Napoleon is kidnapped and forced to go blindfold and tied up through a house whose furniture is studded with knives - he has a breakdown as a result. Illya is tortured with acid-like chemicals and also gets beaten. Napoleon later gets beaten as well, iirc.

Fun for all the family! :P

Woo! That sounds like the perfect telly programme to write official novels for. What a wonderful job that would be.

There's a reason why that one is most UNCLE fans' favourite novel. ;)

How many novels are there? And are they decent length stories, or tiddly little things?

There are 23 in total, 16 of which were also published in the UK. As you can imagine, considering they were published in the 1960s and not reprinted, some of them are quite hard to come by (and I'm deliberately forgetting how much I paid for the higher numbered US ones on ebay).

They're basically just pulp paperbacks, a couple of which have decent plots while the others are a bit thin plotwise - Assassination Affair is by far one of the better ones.
