Well, I wondered how they could top the season finale last year and alas in my opinion they didn't quite manage to keep up with that quality, mostly because it feels a little like they've got one too many balls in the air to work.

Running four storylines concurrently felt like one too many, I think - we have Starbuck and Helo on Caprica, the other bunch of folks including Baltar on Kobol (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] kwaldo12, I obviously wasn't paying sufficient attention last season...), Tigh carelessly mislaying the fleet and Adama and angsty flashbacks-with-bad-hair-a-gogo, and the President and Apollo languishing in jail. Oh, and Cylon!Boomer in custody, which counts as part of the 'buggeration, where is the fleet?' storyline (gone to the place where odd socks disappear to, I suspect).

Still, it's nice to see the women toting guns like they know how to use them and looking like they've been through six kinds of shit before breakfast as well, particularly when you compare it to Teflon!Barbie Carter, who's apparently just as likely to run into the line of fire for 'her man' as she is to return fire and whose makeup is always impeccable (even if her hair is pretty much always in dire need of a comb).

As with SG-1, though, I'm looking forward both to next week's ep and to seeing this on my wide-screen tv when it finally airs over here...

Word. (nods) I agree with just about everything you said here. I really like BSG, but I think they could have done without the WTF Flashbacks, in which Bad Things Are Hinted At, and yet Are Not Answered.

Humph.
