Apparently it is not the policy of my current employers to offer exit interviews, mainly because (according to them) there are resources implications. In other words, they might have to pay someone to actually sit and listen to their employees talk about why they're shortly going to be their ex-employees and that would be a level of interest too far.

So, it was suggested, I should speak to one of my line managers about any issues I wish to raise regarding my time in post.

That would be the woman who's just had a month off with stress but who then came and told the other team in our building yesterday that they weren't stressed, they were just over-anxious about things. Because apparently people burst into tears and threaten to quit if they're anxious - it couldn't possibly be stress. The woman who also told one of my soon-to-be ex-colleagues (who oddly enough is also leaving) that she should 'get a life'. The woman who has all the people skills of a demented tyrannosaurus rex on smack.

Alternatively, if I wish to speak 'in confidence' to someone, I could speak to the woman I have been calling the Queen of all the Bureaucrats for the past 9 months or more. The woman who re-invented herself from being apparently a pretty decent human being who drank, smoked and swore into a twinset-and-pearls wearing box ticker who held barbecues for the 'right people' and schmoozed her way up the corporate ladder to well above her ability to function. Another example of impressive people skills, who I think is already avoiding me because of something she promised she'd find out for me three months ago... ;)

So, all in all pretty much as expected!

Oh, and apparently one of my current colleagues has nominated me for some staff recognition award, for the help I've been giving her. Except she thought it would be anonymous and it turned out not to be and now she's all embarrassed! Bless! :P

And in other news: my next door neighbour's house has apparently sold, despite only being on the market 3 weeks now (though I can't find it on their website so I'm still curious as to how much it was up for). There's hope for mine, then, when I get my act together! :)

(The woman who has all the people skills of a demented tyrannosaurus rex on smack. )

What a wonderful description. She isn't, by any chance, related to my boss is she?

I have no idea. Is your boss also a Glaswegian militant lesbian with no insight into her lack of insight? ;)

You may already know this, but if you have or can find out their postcode you should be able to look up what their house sold for here:

http://www.nethouseprices.com/index.php

Relies on Land Registry data so if the transaction isn't completed, it probably won't show up.

I had a good snoop round on there a few weeks ago to see what the houses in the area were going for, but at that point they were about 3 months behind in getting stuff up.

I was more surprised not to see the house on either the estate agents' website or Rightmove, so I guess my curiosity will have to remain unsatisfied for now! :P

Can you write or fax a letter to the head of the company or anything like that? Send it registered so you know they get it?

Oh, I intend to, but I thought I'd better play nice first. And I also intend to cite the comment that finding out why people are leaving in droves isn't cost-effective. ;)

At least you have proof that you tried to work within in the system so you won't come off as being "naughty" to you ex-employers, at least the heads of the company anyway. Its not your fault those directly above you wouldn't listen.
